  • Iondrive concludes successful PFS on cost-effective DES battery recycling technology
Iondrive Limited (ASX: ION) CEO Dr Ebbe Dommisse joins Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss the company’s completed pre-feasibility study (PFS) for its Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) battery recycling technology, which demonstrated cost competitiveness and environmental sustainability.
The PFS assessed the feasibility of a 10,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) recycling plant capable of processing around 160,000 end-of-life lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries annually.
A benchmarking study by PEM RWTH Aachen University found the DES process to be 36% lower in capital expenditure and highly competitive in operating costs compared to a conventional hydrometallurgical recycling plant.
The DES process, developed with the University of Adelaide, uses biodegradable solvents in a closed-loop system to recover lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese from black mass with minimal environmental impact.
The study’s economic modelling showed Iondrive’s DES technology as more profitable than competing methods.
High mineral recovery rates were confirmed during larger-scale trials, with simple pre-treatment steps further enhancing recoveries.
Iondrive’s next steps include optimising the DES process with an integrated pilot plant slated for 2025-2027 and establishing EU partnerships to support the European recycling market’s regulatory demands.
The company aims to attract further investment as it progresses towards commercialisation.

  • Yandal Resources commences new drilling at Siona Prospect following promising gold results
Yandal Resources (ASX:YRL) managing director Chris Oorschot joins Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss the reverse circulation (RC) drilling it has restarted at the recently identified Siona Prospect, part of the Ironstone Well–Barwidgee Gold Project in Western Australia.
This new twelve-hole, 2,500-metre program seeks to explore the geometry and scope of gold mineralisation following significant results from previous drill holes.
Earlier findings reported by the company include 78 metres at 1.2 g/t gold from 96 metres downhole and 14 metres at 1.8 g/t gold from 63 metres.
Current drilling targets up and down dip positions relative to these promising intersections, as mineralisation remains open at multiple angles.
The campaign, set to conclude within two weeks, may be extended if early results are positive.
The company, well-funded, aims to develop the Siona geology model as it advances drilling and delivers samples efficiently.
Yandal is also planning to explore comparable geological structures across the New England Granite region as it refines its geological understanding of Siona.
The program’s initial results are expected in mid-to-late November, with further news anticipated before the end of the year.

  • Mila Resources expands gold exploration portfolio with new agreement in Queensland, Australia
Mila Resources Executive Chairman Mark Stephenson joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce that the company has signed a new exploration and option agreement over three promising gold projects in Queensland, Australia. The agreement with EMX Royalty will see Mila pay an upfront fee of A$25,000 and issue warrants, along with a commitment to conduct A$450,000 in exploration work within the first year.
This new portfolio, which includes the Yarrol, Mt Steadman, and Mt Weary projects, is expected to bolster Mila’s existing gold assets, particularly complementing its primary Kathleen Valley project in Western Australia. According to Stephenson, initial ground exploration efforts will kick off in the coming weeks at Yarrol, the most developed project in the portfolio, with plans to conduct geophysical surveys at both Mt Steadman and Mt Weary in early 2025.
While these new projects are an exciting addition, Stephenson emphasized that Kathleen Valley remains the company's priority. The project is focused on both gold and lithium resources, thanks to Mila’s joint venture with Liontown Resources.
Liontown, which commenced spodumene production at Kathleen Valley in July 2024, is actively engaging local stakeholders as part of further exploration and development plans. This expanded Queensland portfolio reinforces Mila’s commitment to accelerating its exploration capabilities across multiple strategic assets in Australia.
