  • Iondrive battery recycling achieves 100% nickel recovery in breakthrough tests
Iondrive Ltd (ASX:ION) CEO Dr Ebbe Dommisse sits down with Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss promising results from the latest tests on lithium-ion battery recycling.
The tests recovered 100% of nickel and 89-98% of other critical metals, including cobalt, manganese and lithium, using black mass from spent batteries.
These results were achieved through a three-stage pre-treatment process that removes impurities such as PVDF polymers, graphite and ferrous iron.
Iondrive expects even higher lithium recovery rates, potentially reaching 100%, with further refinement of solvent concentrations.
A pre-feasibility study (PFS) is expected to be completed by the end of October 2024, after which the company will move toward developing a pilot plant.
Dommisse described the results as a significant breakthrough, especially given that lower-quality raw materials were used.
The company's Deep Eutectic Solvents process, a non-toxic, environmentally friendly alternative to mineral acid leaching, continues to demonstrate high recovery efficiency even at scale.

  • North Bay Resources Receives Approval for Full-Scale Production at Mt. Vernon Gold Mine
North Bay Resources CEO Jared Lazerson joined Steve Darling from Proactive to shared and update that the company announcing that the U.S. Department of Labor's Mining Safety and Health Administration has granted all necessary approvals for full-scale production at the company’s Mt. Vernon Gold Mine in California. This milestone marks the beginning of operations at a largely undeveloped gold deposit.
Lazerson revealed that qualified mining engineers have conducted sampling at the site, with assays showing consistently high gold grades of more than 1 ounce per ton and up to 5 ounces per ton over 200 feet. The first phase of mining will focus on blasting, loading, sorting, and shipping 500 tons from the core of the deposit, which has demonstrated stable gold grades in the higher range.
North Bay Resources has also completed an updated mine plan, developed by mining engineer Respec, that targets the richest zone of the deposit. This development paves the way for the company to capitalize on its high-grade gold resources.

  • Super Copper Begins Trading on Canadian Securities Exchange, Targets Exploration in Chile
Super Copper CEO Zachary Dolesky joined Steve Darling from Proactive that the company has officially started trading on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the ticker symbol CUPR. This significant milestone comes after the completion of Super Copper's final prospectus, marking a new phase in the development of its flagship project.
The Cordillera Cobre Project, located in Chile’s renowned Atacama region—one of the world’s most prolific copper-producing belts—holds immense exploration potential. Early exploration and geochemical analysis have revealed promising results, with copper grades ranging from 1% to 2.44% Cu across three high-priority target zones. The geological structures in the area suggest the possibility of Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) systems or porphyry-style mineralization, adding to the project’s appeal.
Super Copper plans to initiate a comprehensive exploration program in the coming months, including geophysical surveys, rock and soil sampling, drone surveys, and a focused drilling campaign. The company will concentrate on near-surface oxide zones and deeper sulfide-rich areas associated with copper-gold bearing structures, utilizing advanced geophysical tools to refine drilling targets.

  • Iofina CEO Tom Becker on strong Q3 and expansion plans into 2025
Iofina PLC (AIM:IOF, OTC:IOFNF) CEO Dr Tom Becker discusses the company's strong third-quarter performance and its expansion plans with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion.
Becker highlighted that iodine production increased year-over-year, producing just under 164 metric tons across six plants, with a seventh plant, IO#10, coming online in September. He also discussed IO#11, a new plant set to start construction by the end of the year, which is part of Iofina's aggressive growth strategy.
Becker also commented on the iodine market, stating, "Demand for iodine and iodine derivatives is estimated to be up 7% on the year." He anticipates average selling prices of iodine will rise in the second half of 2024 compared to the first half, driven by strong market demand and supply constraints. Plans for further expansion beyond IO#11 are already in development, with Iofina making strides towards a significant increase in iodine production in the coming years.
