  • Sarytogan Graphite MD discusses progress in Kazakhstan as project gains local and global support
Sarytogan Graphite Ltd managing director Sean Gregory discusses the company's recent progress and the strong support it has received from both local and international entities.
Speaking with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion, Gregory detailed his trip to Kazakhstan, where the Sarytogan Graphite Project is based. He discussed the promising infrastructure in the town of Agydyr, which will host the company’s planned thermal purification facility.
He also highlighted the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) investment of $5 million, which positions Sarytogan as one of the first projects to benefit from the Mineral Security Partnership program. This endorsement was showcased globally when the project was presented as a case study at the United Nations General Assembly. Gregory emphasised the significance of this investment, not only for the project’s technical and financial feasibility but also for its potential to create hundreds of local jobs. The investment will fund ongoing trial mining, sample analysis, and efforts to advance towards a definitive feasibility study.
"It looks like we’re going to be able to tap into low-cost, high-voltage power," Gregory said, underscoring the project’s strategic location on the Silk Road and its long-term potential to supply critical materials.

  • Ocean Power Technologies Ships Multiple WAM-Vs to U.S. Government
Ocean Power Technologies CEO Philipp Stratmann joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the company has successfully shipped multiple WAM-Vs (Wave Adaptive Modular Vessels) to fulfill a previously announced contract with a U.S. government department. While the specific terms of the contract remain undisclosed due to its sensitive nature, this delivery marks a key milestone, enabling revenue recognition for the company.

  • Zephyr Energy Reports Strong Interim Results for H1 2024, Driven by Williston Basin Production
Zephyr Energy PLC CEO Colin Harrington joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share the company’s unaudited interim results for the first half of 2024. During this period, Zephyr focused heavily on investing in its flagship Paradox Basin project in Utah, primarily drilling and testing the State 36-2R LN-CC well. This development aligns with the company’s strategy of using cash flow generated from its non-operated portfolio in the Williston Basin to fund ongoing operations and reinvestment efforts.
The company reported revenue of $13.6 million for H1 2024, driven by production from the Williston project, with gross profit rising to $10.0 million. Zephyr’s non-operated production during the period averaged 1,239 barrels of oil equivalent per day, totaling 225,622 barrels. Harrington highlighted the company’s strong cash flow and high margins, which covered all general and administrative costs, finance expenses, and provided additional capital for further reinvestment.
As of September 24th, Zephyr held cash balances of $1.3 million, positioning the company for continued development and growth in its core assets.

  • Technology Minerals puts Recyclus RTO on hold – CEO Explains
Technology Minerals PLC CEO Alex Stanbury talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company’s decision to step away from the planned reverse takeover (RTO) of its 48.35% owned recycling business, Recyclus.
Stanbury highlighted that the current market capitalisation of Technology Minerals does not reflect the value of Recyclus. Given the London Stock Exchange's required capitalisation of £30 million for readmission, moving forward with the RTO would have negatively impacted Technology Minerals shareholders. Instead, Stanbury emphasised that Technology Minerals will focus on growing its exploration assets, such as the Leinster lithium project, as well as assets in Spain, Cameroon, and Idaho.
Stanbury also confirmed the company’s strategy for its exploration projects, stressing the importance of remaining capital-light and incubating these assets to attract larger players. He mentioned Recyclus is exploring other avenues for raising capital through strategic partnerships and will aim to demonstrate its value over time.

  • Giyani Metals CEO on demo plant progress and Q4 milestone
Giyani Metals Corp CEO Charles FitzRoy updates Proactive's Stephen Gunnion on the company's manganese demonstration plant in South Africa. FitzRoy highlighted the steady progress, noting that the plant remains on track to deliver battery-grade manganese by Q4 of this year for offtaker qualification and testing. He emphasised key steps like completing hard-standing equipment installation and ongoing work on piping and cabling connections.
The company has also partnered with CM Solutions for metallurgical testing, successfully removing hydrofluoric acid from the flow sheet, a major advancement in reducing reagent use. Additionally, Minopex, a leading plant operations group, has been engaged to operate the facility upon commissioning. FitzRoy underscored the importance of the demo plant’s continuous operation, which ensures a consistent end product, crucial for securing offtake agreements with OEMs.
“This is a world-class facility, and we are on track for commissioning in Q4,” said FitzRoy. The plant will also serve as a critical step for de-risking the ramp-up of Giyani’s commercial facility, which is expected by 2027.

  • Asia’s auction Trends in 2023 & 2024 | Fah Mai's Jacob Carter provides insights
Fah Mai Holdings Group Inc UK head Jacob Carter talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the current state of the Asian whisky market and emerging trends for 2023 and 2024.
According to Carter, while whisky volumes have increased by 10%, the overall value of rare bottles, especially those priced over £1000, has seen a decline. He shared insights into how ultra-high-end bottles still achieve record-breaking prices, but the market dynamics are shifting toward lower-priced bottles, where volume is growing by 18%.
Carter also touched on the rise of premiumisation in the market, where buyers are willing to pay more for single malts and aged whiskies from brands like Macallan, Glenfiddich, and Springbank. He highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a major whisky hub, benefiting from a tax-free environment for luxury goods. Jacob noted that despite macroeconomic pressures, the demand for premium and collectible whiskies remains strong.
“The whisky bottle market in Asia, particularly in Hong Kong, China, and Japan, does remain strong, with continued growth in sales volumes driven by its demand for premium and collectable bottles,” Carter stated, while cautioning about counterfeiting concerns and the impact of economic pressures on luxury goods.
