FPX Nickel CEO Martin Turenne joined Steve Darling from Proactive to FPX Nickel CEO Martin Turenne joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the re-initiation of exploration activities at the Company's Mich property in the Yukon. The Company has recently expanded its claims at Mich by over 350% and will conduct a wide-ranging surface sampling program over the summer of 2024 with the goal of advancing Mich to drill-ready status.
Turenne told Proactive that the company is looking to conduct geological mapping and surface sampling, aiming to expand the footprint of known awaruite nickel mineralization, from where previous sampling and drilling has generated positive results. FPX Nickel has been awarded a non-repayable grant under the Yukon Mineral Exploration Program, which will be used to offset program costs.
The expanded exploration program is designed to leverage historical data and new findings to refine FPX's geological understanding of the Mich property. This will involve detailed geological mapping and systematic surface sampling to identify new zones of nickel mineralization. By combining historical data with new results from the 2024 fieldwork, FPX aims to develop a comprehensive geological model that will inform the planning of a future drill program.
FPX Nickel's recent expansion of its claim area at Mich reflects the Company's commitment to unlocking the full potential of this promising nickel project. The significant increase in claim size provides a larger exploration area and enhances the likelihood of discovering additional nickel-rich zones. The surface sampling program scheduled for summer 2024 will be crucial in identifying these zones and advancing the project to the next stage of development.
The non-repayable grant from the Yukon Mineral Exploration Program is a testament to the project's potential and the support of the local government for mineral exploration activities. This funding will help FPX Nickel manage exploration costs and focus on maximizing the value of the Mich property.
As the company prepares for the 2024 exploration season, Turenne emphasized the importance of integrating new data with historical work to refine their exploration strategy. The synthesis of these datasets will enable FPX Nickel to target high-potential areas more effectively and plan a robust drilling program that aims to confirm and expand the known nickel resources at Mich.

  • Standard Uranium Completes Inaugural Drilling Program at Canary Project with Promising Results
Standard Uranium Vice President of Exploration Sean Hillacre joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the completion of the company's inaugural drilling program at the Canary Project, which has highlighted localized anomalous radioactivity and prospective rock types typical of basement-hosted uranium deposits. The Canary Project is located in the prolific eastern Athabasca Basin, northern Saskatchewan.
Hillacre reported that anomalous radioactivity was intersected in one of the four inaugural drill holes at the Canary Project. In addition to this, multiple zones of favorable alteration were identified, including hydrothermal silicification, clay, chlorite, and hematite. Notably, fracture-hosted elevated radioactivity was intersected in drill hole CAN-24-004, with ratios greater than 4:1 measured using a handheld RS-125 Super-Spec device. This suggests significant hydrothermal uranium input.
The Canary Project holds substantial potential for further discoveries along three different and significantly underexplored conductor systems. To enhance understanding and identify additional targets, supplementary geophysical surveys will be conducted over all three corridors. These surveys will inform phase II and III drilling, aiming to capitalize on the significant discovery upside at the Canary Project.

  • S&U reports solid trading despite market challenges
S&U PLC (LSE:SUS) chairman Anthony Coombs discussed the specialist lender's trading update and current market conditions with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion.
Coombs outlined the challenges posed by the regulatory environment, specifically the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) scrutiny of the motor finance industry.
"We're working with them on a very constructive basis to look at things like consumer duty and how that impacts upon our relations with our customers and in particular on issues like forbearance and affordability," he stated.
Coombs said motor finance arm, Advantage, is in a consolidation phase for 2024 due to these regulatory constraints. He emphasised the importance of aligning advances with affordability criteria to maintain financial stability.
On a positive note, Coombs highlighted the strong performance of Aspen, S&U's property finance business. Aspen's advances more than doubled to £44.4 million in the first quarter, he noted, underscoring the robust growth and prudent lending practices of the division.
Coombs also shared his outlook on the residential property sector, anticipating improvements in market activity and prices due to underlying property scarcity and potential interest rate cuts by the Bank of England.

  • One Media iP Group's TCAT subsidiary tackles music rights infringement with new app
Robin Abeyesinhe, managing director of TCAT, a subsidiary of One Media IP Group, discusses the launch of the "TCAT Protect" app with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion.
The app, launched last week, is designed to help music rights holders, such as musicians and bands, identify illegal exploitation of their music. Users can upload their tracks to the system, which then identifies potential illegal use by matching content with major streaming services like Spotify, Amazon, iTunes, Napster, and Deezer.
Abeyesinhe highlighted the significant issue of illegal music exploitation, noting that the streaming and downloading market, valued at over $30 billion, could see up to a third of its content exploited illegally. TCAT Protect offers a seven-day free trial where users can upload their music, which TCAT then fingerprints and matches against available digital streaming platforms (DSPs).
The system reports any matches, indicating where the content is available and providing a risk score based on metadata analysis. While TCAT cannot confirm infringements due to a lack of licensing agreement information, it guides users on verifying potential infringements and issuing takedown notices.
Abeyesinhe emphasised the uniqueness of TCAT Protect, especially in its comprehensive packaging and global accessibility. The app is available through the TCAT website: www.tcat.media.

  • Tharisa CEO discusses resilient interim performance, share price rally and positive outlook
Tharisa PLC (LSE:THS, JSE:THA, OTC:TIHRF) CEO Phoevos Pouroulis takes Proactive's Stephen Gunnion through the company's recent interim results, highlighting the resilience of the company's co-production model of platinum group metals (PGMs) and chrome concentrates.
Despite a 40% drop in PGM prices to $1,344 per tonne, chrome prices increased by 16% to $288 per tonne, with current spot prices around $315 per tonne. Tharisa's chrome concentrate volumes rose by 10% to 870,000 tonnes for the first six months. The company continued to invest in growth and maintained its share buyback program, repurchasing $5 million worth of shares. Additionally, Tharisa declared an interim dividend of 1.5 cents per share, in line with its policy of returning 15% of net profit to shareholders.
Pouroulis noted a positive market response to the share buyback, with Tharisa's shares rising by 61%. He mentioned slight upticks in platinum prices and stable conditions for rhodium and palladium, albeit with potential overhang from recyclable inventories. Market conditions for PGMs are influenced by global interest rates and vehicle replacement patterns.
Tharisa is also progressing with its Redox battery project, deploying three 200-kilowatt demonstration units in Germany and South Africa. Commercialisation is expected next year. Production guidance remains consistent, targeting 1.7 to 1.8 million tonnes of chrome concentrate and 145,000 to 155,000 ounces of PGMs.
Despite challenges in South Africa, including utility and logistics constraints, Pouroulis said Tharisa's production remains stable.
