  • Plexus Holdings CEO happy with $5.2mln "non-core" SLB deal
Plexus Holdings PLC (AIM:POS) chief executive Ben van Bilderbeek speaks to Thomas Warner after the oil and gas engineering and service business announced a major $5.2mln deal with SLB (formerly Schlumberger).
The deal gives SLB a perpetual royalty free license for POS-GRIP technology and HG® seal technology plus any improvements, enhancements, or derivatives to the technology for surface wellhead production applications for all pressure and size ranges.
Van Bilderbeek emphasises that Plexus has not sold its core assets. Instead, the agreement pertains to a high-volume business area that Plexus does not prioritise. Furthermore the licensing agreement with SLB leaves room for Plexus to supply high-specification wellhead products on a limited basis.
Van Bilderbeek described this as a new dawn for Plexus, highlighting the versatility of its technology in and outside the oil and gas sector. He mentions the company's involvement in subsea wellhead technology, metal-to-metal sealing, and plug-and-abandonment applications, among other areas.
The deal also enables Plexus to retain the intellectual property for bespoke wellhead solutions. The partnership with SLB includes access to SLB's Valves and Trees products, enhancing Plexus's service offerings.
Looking forward, Plexus aims to expand globally, moving into markets in North America, Mexico, the Far East, and potentially the CIS. Van Bilderbeek expresses optimism about this strategic expansion and the potential of the partnership with SLB.

Ondo InsurTech PLC (LSE:ONDO) CEO Craig Foster speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive after the claims prevention technology company announced the signing of an expanded deal in Denmark, marking a promising start to 2024.
The company, known for its innovative LeakBot device, has extended its contract with Danish insurance partner LB Forsikring, planning to distribute an additional 7,500 units in the next three months. This move comes after a successful 14-month collaboration in Denmark, where over 94% of the initial 10,000 systems were effectively installed, demonstrating the product's effectiveness in preventing water damage claims for insurance companies.
Reflecting on 2023, Foster highlighted Ondo's progress, including forming nine new partnerships with some of the world's largest insurers and alarm companies. Notably, Ondo signed deals with Nationwide in the U.S., Länsförsäkringar in Sweden, and an R&D agreement with IAG in Australia. • FTSE 100 birthday celebrations led by supermarkets - Market Report
Good morning from London, I’m Thomas Warner and the FTSE 100 is celebrating its fortieth birthday with a slight uptick from last night’s close - despite falls overnight for both the Nasdaq and the S&P500.
Topping the early leaderboard is Entain, boosted by a new board appointment but the main story is in supermarkets - J Sainsbury PLC (LSE:SBRY) and Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO) shares are up this morning after fresh figures from Kantar showed it was the busiest Christmas since 2019. A record £13.7 billion was spent at supermarkets in the four weeks to 24 December, with 488 million shopping trips were made over the period.
Grocery price inflation fell to 6.7% in December, marking the fastest month on month drop that the market research firm has recorded.
The traditional retailers accounted for a combined market share of 70% during the 12 weeks to 24 December, but discount alternatives Aldi and Lidl are still snapping at their heels.
Outside of supermarket news the Institute of Directors has announced it wants to see interest rates start to come down sooner rather than later to help give business a bit of a new year lift, but today’s macreconomic focus is mostly the US, with minutes from the last Federal Reserve policy meeting, plus a raft of data, including MBA mortgage applications, ISM manufacturing PMI, ISM prices, Redbook index and crude oil inventories. And you can stay abreast of all that right here on Proactive.

  • First Phosphate closes second tranche of financing bringing in a total of 7.5 million to treasury
First Phosphate Corp CEO John Passalacqua joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share significant news about the company's strong start to 2024. First Phosphate has successfully completed an oversubscribed financing round, which has brought in a substantial influx of capital.
Passalacqua expressed the company's satisfaction with the robust investor interest, emphasizing that it reflects a substantial vote of confidence in First Phosphate. The financing round has attracted a multitude of new shareholders, including several institutional investors. One of the company's key strengths lies in its comprehensive approach to critical minerals like phosphate, encompassing the entire supply chain, from mining and processing phosphate concentrate to producing purified phosphoric acid, and ultimately, contributing to LFP cathode active material production.
This substantial capital injection positions the company to move forward with its winter drilling plans, aimed at fully exploring the Bégin-Lamarche high-purity igneous rock phosphate horizon, conveniently located just 70 km from the deep-sea Port of Saguenay. The successful financing sets the stage for exciting developments on the horizon for First Phosphate Corp in the coming year.

  • Voyageur Pharmaceuticals has a really interesting programme for 2024 — Proactive Research
Proactive Research Analyst John Savin speaks to Thomas Warner about Voyageur Pharmaceuticals, a notable Canadian company breaking into the North American contrast media business.
In his comprehensive analysis, Savin highlights Voyageur's strategic advantage, stemming from its unique barium supply from a quarry in Western Canada. This resource enables Voyageur to produce contrast media, a niche market currently dominated by the company Breaker. Voyageur's approach is straightforward: extracting barium, processing it, and bottling it for contrast media production.
Voyageur's portfolio includes five products under development, awaiting fast-track approval by Health Canada for a 2024 launch. This move positions Voyageur as a strong contender in a market ripe for new entrants. Additionally, the company is expanding into the ID agents market, focusing on sourcing supplies for ID.
A significant part of Voyageur's future strategy involves the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) market, particularly high-value agents. In a pioneering initiative, Voyageur has partnered with Green Cage to develop a green carbon agent. This project, in its early stages, is slated for progress in 2024 and holds promise for revolutionizing the MRI agent segment.
Savin's detailed report on Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Ltd. offers a thorough overview of the company's innovative strategies and upcoming ventures in the pharmaceutical landscape.

  • PYX Resources CEO thanks stakeholders for a 'successful' 2023
PYX Resources Ltd (LSE:PYX, NSX:PYX) chief executive Oliver Hasler speaks to Proactive's Thomas Warner about how the world's third-largest publicly traded zircon producer has been performing during 2023.
Hasler highlights the achievement of a 10-year license renewal from the Ministry of Energy and Mining for the Tisma IUP-OP licence in Kalimantan. He says the renewal not only promises increased zircon production but also demonstrates strong government relations.
In a regulatory breakthrough, the export of rutile and ilmenite was eased in August, allowing PYX to export these minerals without additional processing. The company has stockpiled about 9,000 tonnes of these minerals, poised to enhance sales and cash flow. Hasler announced preparations for the first shipment of the year, indicating imminent news on this front.
Financially, PYX Resources saw a 48% increase in mineral sands sales for the first nine months of 2023, with Q3 being particularly strong. Production of premium zircon reached 4,000 tonnes, and total mineral sands production was up by 39% for the quarter. Sales surged by 70% compared to the previous year. He expects the fourth quarter to align with these robust figures.
Hasler says that despite a softening global market, PYX's strategy of diversifying its customer base, especially in stronger economies like India and China, has been effective. Stable international prices at $2,100 per tonne and a strategy to sell all inventory have been crucial in this tough market. PYX's financial health remains solid, maintaining its net cash position without accruing additional debt.
Reflecting on the year, Hasler expressed pride in his team's achievements, especially considering the limited physical presence at the project due to COVID-19 restrictions. Looking ahead, he outlined clear goals for 2024 and thanked stakeholders for their trust and support in PYX's successful year.

  • Europa Oil & Gas starts 2024 "with a bang"
Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) PLC (AIM:EOG) chief executive William Holland speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive after the exploration and production company published a new competent person's report (CPR) for its 30% owned Wressle project in Lincolnshire.
Holland gives an overview of the report, highlighting a 263% increase in the company's reserves since 2016 - a material boost primarily attributed to the development plan for two new infill wells. This development, both approved and fully funded, marks a shift from contingent resources to reserves, pending necessary permits from the Environmental Agency (EA).
Holland also highlighted the success of the Ashover reservoir at the company's Wressle site, noting a 59% increase over initial estimates, with 600,000 barrels still to be extracted. This achievement underscores the reservoir's robust performance and potential for continued success.
Beyond Wressle, Europa Oil and Gas is focusing on their recent Equatorial Guinea deal, initiating a farm-out process and conducting technical analyses of deeper horizons, which hold promising prospects for additional gas resources.
Regarding upcoming news, Holland indicated potential updates from various areas, including an awaited extension approval in Ireland. While uncertain about the exact timeline due to regulatory processes, he expressed optimism about receiving a response soon, emphasizing ongoing dialogue with the Irish regulator.

  • FTSE 100 up, bolstered by commodities - Market Report
Good morning from London, I’m Thomas Warner and this is the first market report of the new year. The top story so far today is tension in the Red Sea, where an international naval pile-on continues. As always its the commodity markets that are telling the story, and oil and gold are both up a step today – no bad thing for the FTSE 100 which is up around 1% so far.
Staying in commodities and uranium is also continuing to do very well, with the Telegraph reporting over the new year that hedge funds having been investing heavily in the radioactive metal – backing the view that demand from nuclear power plants will outstrip supply over the next decade.
Among the big gainers on the FTSE 100 this morning are well-known household names Marks & Spencer, Rolls-Royce, B&M, and BAE Systems.
On the alternative market it’s a slow start to the year but specialist contract research organization hVIVO has just announced a new £6.3 million deal to run a trial at its Canary Wharf facility.
And Harland & Wolff shares are up a few percent this morning, continuing to benefit from news that its been cleared by the Government to advance negotiations in relation to a proposed £200 million guaranteed loan facility with UK Export Finance (UKEF). The shipbuilder has a pipeline of contracts but needs to shore up its finances in order to meet them all. That’s all for now, have a great start to the year.
