Good morning from London where the markets are looking very steady indeed owing to it being Independence Day in the USA.
Here in the good old UK though Sainsbury’s shares have dropped a little this morning in response to a first-quarter update. The grocer is sticking to its full-year guidance and says food price inflation is showing signs of easing off. Airlines Wizz and Ryanair saw a positive start to Tuesday meanwhile, as both reported a jump in passenger figures for June, with the latter setting a new monthly record of 17.4mln.
In housing, the boffins over at JP Morgan are saying this morning that homebuilders need to be wary of risk in the current slow market. Centrica shares look to have shrugged off warnings to the sector over paying out dividends, as regulator Ofgem looks to prevent further energy company collapses.
Elsewhere, Yahoo is reportedly set to launch a multi-billion-dollar IPO, marking a return to public markets after being spun out of Verizon in 2021. And in small caps, Guild Esports shares jumped after announcing it would take part in the 2023 F4 Esports Championship.
