Good morning from London, Rolls Royce is the biggest gainer on the FTSE 100 this morning, up 2% on news that it’ll be making the nuclear reactors for Australia’s new nuclear submarines. The firm is also in line to benefit from a lucrative engine contract with Saudi Arabia’s new airline Riyadh Air, through its partnership with Boeing.
The FTSE 100 overall was little changed in early trading. But banking stocks remain under pressure from the collapse of SVB in the US.
Returning to the subject of nuclear power, British Gas owner Centrica has announced plans to extend to the lives of two UK nuclear power stations. The Heysham 1 and Hartlepool stations are now expected to close in March 2026, two years later than previously expected.
Sainsbury's has confirmed its acquired a portfolio of 21 stores from Supermarket Income REIT for £430.9mln.
Pharma giant GSK says its pleased with results from a phase III trial of its meningococcal vaccine candidate. Meningococcal is a major cause of meningitis and septicaemia.
