“Peace on earth, can it be?” This line from a popular Christmas song poses a question with an answer that is hard to grasp. Though the world desires peace, it has never truly experienced it and can never fully know it apart from Christ. According to Ephesians 2:14, Christ himself is our peace; this is why he is called the Prince of Peace in the book of Isaiah.
What the world offers is nothing compared to who Christ is and what he brings. His peace is full and without end. Worldly peace is fragile, temporary, often selfishly motivated, and utterly powerless to appease God’s righteous wrath. It will always come short, leaving us empty and unsatisfied.
This Sunday, we will explore the words the angels spoke to the shepherds as they tended their flocks in the fields. These ordinary men were going about their daily work when a host of angels suddenly appeared, praising God and proclaiming the birth of a Saviour, Christ the Lord, who brings peace to all who receive him.
Join us as we walk through this incredible event in Luke 2:8–20, which set the shepherds on a journey to meet Jesus, discovering great joy and finding true peace.
