It’s one thing if someone says you don’t make sense. It’s quite another if they say you lack sense. The latter is much harder to hear and receive. And yet, that is exactly how God’s Word describes someone who commits adultery. They believe sin’s false promises, pursue what is harmful, and fail to consider the consequences. Why would anyone choose to go down that path? And yet all around us, marriages are falling apart, and relationships are being devastated by the sin of adultery. Why is that?
Well, research shows that one of the leading reasons spouses are unfaithful in marriage is a sense of overall dissatisfaction. This points to a deeper issue: satisfaction cannot be found in anyone or anything other than Jesus Christ.
When we miss this, we expose ourselves to the temptations and dangers of sin, along with the disappointment that inevitably follows. We pursue all kinds of things in life to fill that void; things like money, achievement, sex, family, career, entertainment, adventure, relaxation, and possessions. But none of these will ever be enough. Each one eventually leaves us empty, longing for more, but never satisfied. It is only Christ, and a life centred on him, that can truly satisfy.
So, the question we’re asking this week as we consider Proverbs 6:32–33 is this: Are you living the satisfied life? If you’re wondering what that really means, or what that might actually look like, then this message is for you.
