We are continuing on with our discussion about the story of the prodigal son. It is easy to waste what you did not earn. There is an important lesson in learning HOW to earn. If you don’t have the blood, sweat and tears invested in something, you are apt to treat it with less value. You may actually normalize it. There is a difference between people who grew up surrounded by great wealth, and those who grew up in hardship having to earn their wealth. Those who earn something are more likely to protect it, because they know the work that went into achieving it. In our current generation it appears that many young people have developed a sense of entitlement. It takes great discipline to not only protect what we have been given, but to respect it. RESPECT THE SWEAT! “Give me what belongs to me!” That statement clearly manifests the need to control. Right now, our world seems to be spinning out of control. We are living in a time of great uncertainty. The result is fear and anxiety. We don’t need to react to the circumstances. God desires that we trust Him. It is when our faith has been tried that it becomes clear how much we believe He is worthy of that trust. We may lack answers in the midst of crisis. That does not mean that God has abandoned us or that we are out of His will. Let’s not ever get to the place where we believe that we can do more with our gifts, talents and treasure, than the One who actually bestowed those blessings.
