  • Converting Between Temperature Scales (Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin)

If you're American, you're familiar with the Fahrenheit scale, so 30 degrees is cold and 100 degrees is hot. But in the rest of the world, nobody uses this scale! They use Celsius, and to them, 30 is pretty darn hot. Furthermore, scientists use Kelvin, and to them, 30 is so cold it would kill you dead! We'd better learn how to convert between this different temperature scales, don't you think?

  • Special Relativity Part 3: Length Contraction

Time dilation was pretty weird, huh? Well we aren't done yet! Time is relative, and so is space! Different observers measure different lengths for objects and journeys. It's called length contraction, and it's another important part of special relativity. Weird stuff!

Dave has a discussion with Colette Delawalla, executive director of Stand up for Science, on the science denial of the Trump administration and what we can do about it. It's time to stand up and fight back against anti-intellectualism, everywhere from social media to the White House. Please use the links below to join Colette's campaigns and fight for science!

  • Ask Professor Dave #1: What's My Ethnicity?

Alright guys, you've been asking a lot of questions by email and in the comments section, and not all of them are about science. So I decided to start a playlist where I can respond to these queries, however bizarre they may be! The obvious choice for the first installment in this series was to address the wide variety of speculation surrounding my appearance and ethnic background. What am I? Indian? Arab? Armenian? You'll have to watch this clip to find out!

  • Types of Fingerprint Patterns

We just learned how fingerprint patterns form, so now let's learn how to categorize them. There are three main types of fingerprint patterns, those being whorls, loops, and arches. In order to identify these, we have to learn about cores and deltas. Then we can learn about all the subcategories within each type. It's more interesting than you think!

  • Types of Triangles in Euclidean Geometry

If a shape is made of straight line segments, the minimum number of sides it can have is three. And three sides make a triangle! I'm sure you knew that. But do you know all the types of triangles? Oh you do? Then what's a scalene triangle? Hah! I knew you were bluffing. You'd better watch this right away.

  • Special Relativity Part 2: Time Dilation and the Twin Paradox

We got our feet wet with special relativity, so now let's head to the deep end! Remember in Interstellar when what's his face went down to that one planet and Good Will Hunting was there and they fought and when what's his face went back a bunch of time had passed? That's time dilation! Pretty neat plot device if you ask me. Time passes at different rates for different observers. It's as true as anything can be. Check it out! Bring your twin for some fun with paradoxes.

We just learned a bit about the history of the study of fingerprints. Now let's learn about how fingerprints form. How do those patterns end up on your skin? What's going on in fetal development to produce them? What are they for? Let's take a look!
