Sitting in the barber’s chair I watched and listened to my barber, Andre Guidry, interact with those around him. He was coaching the newly hired barber in the adjacent stall and setting the ground rules for a young boy that had entered with his mother.

It became obvious that Andre has a true passion for barbering. It shows in how he uses these few minutes with each client to help them see themselves in a better light. Sometimes that with a great new haircut. Sometimes its from empathetic support that comes from many of his own struggles and victories.

Most of us recognize the importance of serving others. Yet somehow it does not become a priority in our lives.

My guest this week, John Koury, is a great example for those of us that struggle with prioritizing service. John talks about the influence of his father and the change he has undergone by becoming a man of service.

I knew Kent Sonnier was a great guy the first time I met him. But, during the podcast he told me something I had not previously known. He said, “I have a motto.” Of course, that intrigued me. You will have to listen to know what it is. However, just the fact that he has one is inspirational to me.

Kent tells us about his motto and how he took an interest in an apple laptop. That interest turned into the development of his first business. The fact that he lives with integrity and compassion vaulted him into another career path. Check out his story. You will not be disappointed.

Often we feel that we have to chose a career path that does not feed our passion. We do our best to find purpose in our work. Sometimes that is serving others, or providing for our family. Worthwhile reasons of course. Yet we still dream about following our passions as a way to earn a living.

My passion has brought me to a position where I am now managing a multi-million dollar store, raising two kids and coaching Dale Carnegie. It’s left little time for my duties as a podcast host.
