3423 Hal Phillips Part 1: (Poverty, Neglect) Hal’s father dies of alcoholism. Hal’s grandmother raises his sister because his mother is addicted to drugs and alcohol. After Hal’s stepfather leaves them living in a junkyard, life becomes unbearable for Hal and his brother. Their mother attempts suicide and leaves them hungry and alone. Their grandmother gains custody but is overwhelmed so they go to live with their aunt and uncle. Love, discipline and the Gospel lead Hal to salvation as the first part ends.
