Dance-pop is a subgenre of pop and dance that originated in the early 1980s. It is generally beat music aimed at Scenes, clubs intended to be danceable, but also suitable for radio. Developing from a combination of electronic dance music and pop music, with influences from disco, post-disco, new wave, synth-pop, house and electropop music, it is often characterized by strong beats in easy, uncomplicated songs that are generally more similar to pop music than the freer dance genre, with an emphasis on melody.
