A True Story.

Last night at work a coworker would not let me get a word in.

Not one.

Every time I opened my mouth he talked over me, cut me off, got louder — like

volume was going to win the argument.

The bartender had to step in.

The manager had to step in.

And me?

I said what I needed to say.

Calmly.

Clearly.

Once.

Please stop talking to me. I'm done.

That's it. No drama. No match to his energy. No explaining myself six different ways

hoping he'd finally get it.

I used to shrink in moments like that.

I used to over-apologize, over-explain, over-function just to keep the peace.

Not anymore.
