Arabica coffee beans are usually harvested in a two year cycle, with one year yielding a much larger crop than the other. Considerable progress has been made to streamline the process and in 2013 the harvest was larger than anticipated, meaning supply outweighed demand, and many coffee companies were forced to cut product prices. As a result, in 2014 Arabica beans may replace the lower-priced Robusta beans in lower-grade coffee products.
