A strong advocate for Digital Interactive Technologies, Nick Facey is one of the newest additions to the board of directors of Digital Alberta. In this episode, he talks about his experience with Finger Food Advanced Technology Group, comparisons of the tech sector between B.C. and Alberta, and the advocacy work being done with the provincial government.
Finger Food Advanced Technology Group was acquired by Unity Technologies in May 2020.
Since this chat with Nick, the Alberta UCP government announced a new Innovation Employment Grant (IEG) on July 22, that will cover up to 20% of an Alberta business’s R&D spending. The IEG will take effect Jan. 1, 2021. The provincial government will also be investing an additional $175 million over three years to Alberta Enterprise Corporation. Alberta Enterprise will use this money to support Alberta’s tech entrepreneurs with the access to capital, operational expertise and industry networks they need to grow their businesses. The UCP say this investment will help create up to 4,000 jobs. The report developed by the Innovation Capital Working Group, along with its 14 recommendations are available online. Fall 2020 is the expected release for a full strategy of the province’s innovation and tech sector based on these recommendations.
