Project Herrick

Stew left his well paid job as a specialised Police officer in the Mets armed response unit to join the TA/reservists landing him sharing a four man room at 1 Rifles with people in their late teens. Later he was a key member involved in one of the worst incidents on H14 the finding and recovery of Highlander Scott McLaren. Enjoy.

Multiple Herrick tours allowed for an evolving perspective of how the conflict was being conducted. Frosty elaborates on this from his own point of view and the lingering effects from multiple tours in conflict zones.

The center of the BBC documentary Young soldiers Darren opens up about his experience as both a infantry soldier and the pressure of leaving. Contains strong language.

A interview discussing the build up to deployment from the perspective of a junior soldier and life post Army and recovery from serious injuries.

Frank description about the incident in which Andy was injured. Contains graphic descriptions of injury. Be warned

Introducing Andy, Darren and Frosty the first contributors to the project. To contact me about participating in the project message me on Twitter at @DanielMeally

Just a short into in to what the aims of Project Herrick are with interviews with some of the former riflemen who fought it. This an ongoing project in which we hope to conduct more interviews with those who were on the coalface of one of the longest and bloodiest conflicts in military history.
