Dr. Shaughnessy received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska, a Ph.D. from Stanford University, and a postdoctoral associate degree from Yale University.

Join two undergraduates from the Emerging Scholars Program as they talk with Dr. Michael McKain—an Assistant Professor of Biology and Curator of the University of Alabama Herbarium—about life as a Biologist, academics, research, and everything in-between. Dr. McKain's work focuses on plant systematics, genomics, and polyploidy, and he leads a laboratory studying Johnsongrass genetics on the University's campus.
