The story you’ll hear in Promise Hill is fiction—but the heart behind it is real. It’s not based on any one person, but it reflects the honest, messy, and beautiful experiences so many of us share: grief, hope, change, and growth.
The reflections and action steps I include along the way are just gentle offerings—little things to think about or try. Take what speaks to you, and feel free to leave the rest. This space is here to uplift, inspire, and maybe even bring a bit of comfort or clarity.
This podcast is for inspiration and reflection only. If you’re walking through something heavy right now, please don’t go it alone. Reach out to a trusted counselor or mental health professional. You are deeply worthy of care and support.

*Disclaimer: All the characters in Promise Hill are AI. The storyline is mine, but the videos, photos, and voices are AI (except mine, I'm real :-) ). I understand some people want nothing to do with AI and even feel it is evil, and I respect that, and I encourage you to stick to your boundaries. What that means for us is that this podcast is not for you. There are lots of great podcasts out there that do not use AI. Support them. Bless you!
For those who do not mind AI, I use AI as voice and performing actors to illustrate a story. The storyline is mine, and I developed the characters as I saw them in my head. As a Christian, I have complete peace using AI in this way.

Chapter 9 offers a quiet but meaningful pivot point—an invitation to stop stuffing things down and start letting truth seep in through ordinary moments.
As Mira sits with Eden’s note, steps into unexpected responsibility at the bakery, and hears Gideon’s gentle challenge, you are nudged toward your own work of healing. You'll gain permission to slow down, let buried emotions surface, and take small but real steps toward change, like unfollowing what keeps you stuck or silencing the inner critic that keeps looping shame.
You’ll be reminded that transformation doesn’t always roar in; sometimes it arrives through a letter, a flower, or a sentence that lands just right. By the end, you will walk away with a clearer sense that healing is layered, communal, and already unfolding in your own story, one quiet moment at a time.

Chapter Eight invites you into your own moment of holy interruption.
As Mira takes a simple morning walk, ordinary moments begin to open into something more. Nathaniel’s woodworking and Gideon’s forge become quiet mirrors, reminding us that our flaws are not disqualifiers, and our trials are not wasted heat. Through Mira’s gentle awakening, you’re invited to notice how God shapes, refines, and places the right people in our path at the right time.
By the end, you won’t just watch Mira’s story unfold, you may feel your own beginning to stir.
This chapter offers space to reflect, to find hope in hidden places, and to remember that transformation often begins in the most unassuming moments.

Mira finds herself revisiting the past in a way she didn’t expect—and maybe didn’t want.
But through a quiet conversation, a shared cup of tea, something begins to stir. Healing isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s prompted by a photograph, a porch light, or a simple flower bookmark.
If you’ve ever felt the ache of moving on but aren’t sure how, this chapter is for you.

In Episode Six, the story turns inward as remembering the past gives way to revisiting it with new eyes.
As Mira uncovers her family’s hidden room and the mystery box, this chapter reflects on how memory can become a bridge rather than a burden, how patience honors another person’s story, and how returning to old places can quietly reveal how much you’ve grown.
You’ll be invited to notice how small objects can hold big truths, and how being fully present with someone allows healing to unfold in its own time.
This chapter isn’t just about retrieving a box in the attic, it’s about uncovering layers of identity, legacy, and quiet healing that have been waiting to rise.
This podcast is for inspiration and reflection only. If you are struggling, please seek support from a trusted counselor or mental health professional. You are worth care.

In Episode Five, you’ll walk through a quiet transformation, one that moves from surface memories to deeper legacy, from unanswered questions to the early stirrings of faith taking root.
Through Mira’s tender conversation with her mother, this chapter reflects on how forgotten prayers can still shape the present, how faith is often lived more than spoken, and how the past can hold gentle clues about who we are becoming.
You’ll be invited to consider how God’s presence meets us in uncertainty and how Scripture can become an anchor in unexpected seasons. This chapter isn’t just about uncovering a hidden room; it’s about discovering a story that’s been waiting all along… perhaps much like your own.
Bless you, friend, and thank you for spending this time here.

Afraid to hope again? Bracing yourself for disappointment before it even happens? This chapter will meet you there.
Mira is on her way to see her mother, who, for the first time in months, has called her by name. But instead of hope, fear rises first.
What if it doesn’t last?
What if it hurts even more?
A stop at the Daily Bread bakery turns into an unexpected moment of clarity about grief, love, and what it means to be present… even when your heart wants to protect itself.

From Mira’s Journal…
Today, my phone rang and for a moment, it was her: My mother. Clear. Present. Calling my name through the fog of dementia like a candle flickering in the dark. I should have felt only relief. But instead, worry rushed in.... again.
I find myself in a spiral of questions. The same ones I always fall into...How long will this last? What if she disappears into that fog again? What if I miss the window?
On my way to see her, I found myself caught in an unexpected conversation, one that gently got my attention: Healing doesn’t always come through answers. Sometimes it comes through presence.

Welcome to Promise Hill. I’m Kimberlee Herman—your host, and a retired mental health therapist turned Christian pastoral counselor.
Let’s be honest—talking about mental health can feel overwhelming. So, in what I can only describe as a God thing, a different path opened up. That’s how the fictional town of Promise Hill came to life... and here we are.
The story you’ll hear is entirely made up. It’s not based on any one person or situation I know of. But it does reflect pieces of the human experience—the struggles, the questions, the quiet victories we all face in different ways.
Now, a quick note before you jump in: this story unfolds over time. So if this is your first time here, I highly recommend starting with Episode 1. Each chapter builds on the last, and you’ll get the most out of it if you follow along from the beginning.
My hope is that as you listen, you’ll find encouragement, insight, maybe even a few tools for your own journey. This space was created because so many people need support—and honestly, there just aren’t enough counselors, hours, or resources to meet that need. So, here’s my offering.
The ideas I share here are for entertainment and encouragement. Any action steps I mention—take what resonates and leave the rest. And if you’re really going through a tough time, please don’t wait—reach out for professional help. You're worth it.
Thanks for being here. Bless you.

From Mira’s Journal…
I came back from Grandma Eden's today, still unsure of what I’m doing here… or how to begin again.
She told me an ancient story, one about wells that felt strangely meant just for me. It was gentle, but unsettling in the way truth often is.
As I listened, I realized something: healing isn’t just about time passing. Something in me has to choose something different. My patterns can’t stay the same if I want things to get better. And for the first time, I wondered if this hard season might be asking more of me than survival… it might be asking me to change.

Just as something begins to shift, Mira receives a call she never expected: her mother, who hasn’t recognized her in months… suddenly remembers.
And with that, a deeper story begins.
