Cathy is an experienced, chartered Architect with over 25 years of working within the construction industry. She is an accomplished interior designer and has travelled the world designing and delivering commercial,residential, hotel and restaurant projects for clients.

Cathy spent two years working with a Cheshire based developer which fuelled her desire to step up her development aspirations as well as providing invaluable experience and a great learning experience. She continues to practice as an architect and has her own consultancy business.

Cathy, and husband Simon, founded their property development company in 2018 with the aim providing good quality, well designed, happy healthy homes for their tenants. She is particularly interested in sustainability and low energy buildings for both her clients and her own portfolio and recently completed the first A EPC rated co-living home in the Northwest.

Simon and Cathy are currently restoring and extending their own Grade 2 listed townhouse in Macclesfield alongside building their property portfolio.

They enjoy walking in the surrounding hills with their dogs and friends, art, travel and collaborating with other like-minded property professionals.

In this episode Nigel speaks openly with Richiko Olrichs, one of our very special Equa mentees, about navigating her property journey through the pandemic, the ups & downs including the challenges of raising finance & the importance of planning for the future.

Richiko spent over 15 years in the global corporate world working in the airline and hospitality industry in various management positions, leading teams and transforming businesses. A global restructure in 2017 in the company she worked for became the catalyst to explore her entrepreneurial side as Richiko started her first business in e-commerce. 

Since then, she has moved to building her property investment business, acquiring her first investment property at the end of 2019. 

Richiko has now built a portfolio of buy-to-let, HMO and Serviced Accommodation properties and is in the process of securing her first development project.

Bernadette Anderson is a Property Developer and Sourcer with over fifteen years experience within property development, heavily focused on commercial to residential conversions, sourcing for clients, providing creative ways to vendors on how to sell their properties and coaches property investors.

Bernadette also has twenty years in depth experience as a Global IT Consultant culminating with the role of European Training Manager for a Global Multinational managing a software roll out for twenty thousand end users. Bernadette transitioned into construction development full time in 2019 setting up Go Get It Properties Ltd.

Bernadette demonstrates the importance of investing in herself and is part of the EquaAcademy Mastermind group. She has completed their Development and Construction Programmes which empowers her to fast track her commercial developments as she has access to a pool of leading professionals in the construction industry who are engaged to work on her projects. Her mentors also provide project guidance.

Bernadette is a strong believer of building solid relationships with all she meets and motivates others with her honesty about overcoming hurdles and positive thinking. She is also a Philanthropist supporting many causes over the last fifteen years, having worked with the homeless, organised and delivered aid to refugee camps and more recently worked with care leavers.

Bernadette leads a very active and wholesome lifestyle. At the age of 23, Brian Wood was thrust into the front line in Iraq, in the infamous Battle of Danny Boy. Ambushed, he led a charge across open ground with insurgents firing at just five soldiers. On his return, he was awarded the Military Cross by Queen Elizabeth II.

But Brian's story had only just begun. Struggling to re-integrate into family life, he suffered from PTSD. Then, five years later, a letter arrived: it summoned him to give evidence at the Al-Sweady Inquiry into allegations of war crimes by British soldiers during the Iraq invasion of 2003.

After years of public shame, Brian took the stand and delivered a powerful testimony, and following the tense inquiry room scenes, justice was finally served. Phil Shiner, the lawyer who made the false accusations, was struck off and stripped of an honorary doctorate.

Brian’s story inspired the BBC drama Danny Boy.

Not so long ago, life was barely recognisable for Ellie McKay, raising three children under five, battling post-natal depression, facing redundancy, and walking into the job centre to claim benefits with a double pram, no confidence, and wracked with insecurities.

Fast forward to today, and life looks very different. Ellie made the firm commitment to turn it around, for herself and her family. Following this commitment, she got to work, and has now built multiple successful companies, as well as having built a multimillion-pound property portfolio from a standing start.

Ellie now carves out time to add value to others through public speaking, and through her podcasts which have attracted some phenomenal guests from around the globe. It’s Ellie’s mission to make a positive impact, and to help others reach their full potential.
