We knew that anti-VEGF therapy favorably affected the natural history of moderate or severe  nonproliferation retinopathy. As a result of DRCR network Protocol W, we now know that careful observation with treatment of complications as they develop produces visual acuity results at 2 years similar to prophylactic therapy.
