 One book interprets this passage in this way: "The situation was similar to that seen in Israel at that time, where applicants came to a famous teacher to become his disciples." The same kind of phenomenon can be seen today. It is wrong to try to get something with the power of money. You can buy a house, but you cannot buy happiness. You can buy a bed, but you cannot buy sleep. And God's love can only be obtained by believing in Jesus.
