「The rich man is wise in his own eyes,

　But the poor who has understanding searches him out.」　Amen.

In another translation, the “examine him” part is “examine yourself”. Assumptions are something we all have, but when we are overconfident in our power, money, authority, or knowledge, we can make terrible assumptions. Paul put it this way. (1 Corinthians 10:12) “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” The poor and humble soul does not make high-minded assumptions. It's about shining the light of God on yourself.
