Notes from Sunday, Proverbs 18:9 - 19:4

The Name of the Lord is a mighty fortress, our sanctuary and unfailing help. Let us live in union with the Lord, the Conqueror of death.

Is a wealthy man's abundance truly his refuge, signifying security alone? Can we truly find safety in wealth, excluding the need for God? This is the sin of self-worship, a mere illusion in the rich man's mind. His bank account becomes his false deity.

Pride leads to humility; in Christ Jesus, we are called to humble ourselves.

With two ears and one mouth, we are designed for listening. Sometimes, silence speaks volumes.

If your spirit is broken, it must be mended, by none other than God Himself. Seek solace in God's gracious and paternal care.

Each minor illness is a test preparing us for the day when no ailment can be healed. Live each day in service to God, relying on Him. Such is the profitable way to endure illness.

Pursue knowledge of the Lord; we are God's temples, meant to house His wisdom. Prepare daily for death, for the passing of the Saints is precious in God's eyes.

God takes delight in our times of illness. If we live long enough, we all face a 'mini' Job-like experience. Regardless of age, we are one with Christ.

A person's talents open doors for them, propelling them into important circles. Use your God-given gifts to further the Kingdom of God.

The one who speaks first may seem just, that is until their words are scrutinized. Practice patience, seeking the full story before passing judgment.

Casting lots can settle disputes between powerful adversaries.

An affront from a brother cuts deeper than one from a stranger. We often wound those closest to us. Forgiveness is the remedy, but it's better to avoid such situations altogether.

You will harvest what you plant; ensure your words are kind and gentle.

Speak to promote life with your tongue; use it wisely.

Finding a spouse is a blessing from God. Viewing your spouse as a divine gift fosters patience.

Marriage is not solely for happiness or enjoyment but for spiritual growth and holiness.

We are all beggars, deserving of nothing. Let your prayers, like those of the destitute, be earnest petitions. God takes pleasure in such prayers.

A true friend is closer than a sibling. Having thousands of 'friends' on social media may not equate to a single genuine friendship. Jesus is our true friend; strive to be a friend to others.

Integrity is more valuable than riches in the eyes of God. Uphold your integrity to avoid being manipulated by dark forces.

Clever speech belongs to the wicked and the foolish. A soul devoid of knowledge is lacking. Slow down, seek the right path, then make your choices.

Wickedness leads to ruin, and some may blame the Lord in times of trouble. In such moments, thank God for preventing worse circumstances and consequences.

Wealth attracts many superficial 'friends'.
