Proverbs 8:1-4, 10-13

1 Does not wisdom call out?     Does not understanding raise her voice? 2 At the highest point along the way,     where the paths meet, she takes her stand; 3 beside the gate leading into the city,     at the entrance, she cries aloud: 4 “To you, O people, I call out;     I raise my voice to all mankind.…10 Choose my instruction instead of silver,     knowledge rather than choice gold, 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies,     and nothing you desire can compare with her.12 “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence;     I possess knowledge and discretion. 13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil;     I hate pride and arrogance,     evil behavior and perverse speech.REFLECTIONSWritten by Tara SingThese verses describing all the places of a city where wisdom is calling out make me think that wisdom is like a very good marketing campaign. Remember when the iPod was first released? Or when McDonalds introduced the option of adding bacon to every burger? Maybe there's another advertisement you can think of, where you can recite a slogan or sing a company jingle because the campaign was so effective. Wisdom is out there, in the open, spreading the word. Wisdom is not sitting quietly in a forest, or hiding like treasure in a cave, waiting for someone to finish the quest and claim it. Wisdom is standing in your face and she wants her message to be noticed and listened to by everyone. Some people say that to acquire wisdom and become enlightened you must spend hours searching, that you must seek with all your strength, or that you need to do a crazy number of extreme tasks to finally understand. God's true wisdom is very different, there are no tricks, no tests to pass, nothing is hidden. This wisdom wants to be heard. Why does wisdom want her message to be heard? Because this is a precious and important message. One that is worth more than the most valuable thing you can think of. Worth more than money, superior to fine jewels. Picture the most desirable thing you can - and it can't even come close to what wisdom has to offer. The precious message of wisdom here is simple: to fear the Lord is to hate evil. Wisdom hates three things here: arrogant pride, evil conduct and perverse speech. They're hated because they stop us from listening to the precious and wise words of God. They are hated because they stop us listening and acting wisely - they stop us fearing the Lord and hating evil.Praise God that he makes his wisdom easy to find and pray that we will listen well and live well in light of it. ABOUT THE AUTHORTara is a member of the Bossley Park morning church.
