Seven centuries before Christ walked this earth, Isaiah gazed into the future and saw the coming Messiah as a "Man of Sorrows, and acquainted with grief." This divine preview of the only One who would bear our pain, carry our sorrows, and take our sins upon Himself at Calvary. Jesus perfectly fulfilled this ancient prophecy, experiencing rejection, betrayal, physical agony, and the weight of human sin so we may be healed and forgiven. But Isaiah's "Man of Sorrows" is our source of lasting joy. Through His sorrows, we find eternal life and the forgiveness of sins.

John teaches us that love, not knowledge, gifts, or religious activity, is the authentic indicator of our spiritual standing. We consider three distinct types of people (false professors, genuine believers, and those in spiritual decline), to see the timeless, yet fresh commandment that Jesus gave us: to love one another. The state of our relationships with fellow believers is a spiritual mirror, reflecting whether we're truly walking in God's light or deceiving ourselves in darkness.

What do we do when life seems to fall apart? King David faced betrayal, humiliation, false accusations, and the painful consequences of past sin. He fled from his rebellious son, Absalom. Yet in this darkest of hours, displayed humility, submission to God's providence, and confidence in the Lord's mercy. David's greater Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, was also rejected and reviled, yet entrusted Himself wholly to His Father. A challenging, but encouraging study for all who face trials and seek to trust God through them.

Christ's first miracle at Cana was not only an extraordinary public display of power; it was a theological announcement that the Gospel age of spiritual abundance and joy had begun. By turning water into wine, Jesus was declaring He had "saved the best for last". The era of religious ceremonies and symbolic observances was complete. Instead of outward signs and shadows, Christ announced a new covenant of inner cleansing and authentic spiritual joy, genuine heart transformation for all will believe on Him.

How can we tell if a person has been genuinely saved by Christ? The Apostle John gives 7 clear signs that will also provide us with ongoing Assurance. One sure sign is a new heart and desire that wants, and is given the power of the Holy Spirit, to keep God's commandments. A new attitude to please God and pursue holiness will be formed in a believer's life.

The phrase "My people" is God's unchanging covenant from Abraham to eternity. Though Israel's unfaithfulness temporarily broke this relationship (Hosea's "Lo-ammi"), God's merciful promise found fulfilment in Christ. Now, all nations become "My people" through faith. As believers, we must live as God's separated people enjoying intimate fellowship with Him, knowing this relationship will reach perfect completion in eternity.

The parable of the wise and foolish virgins reveals a sobering truth: spiritual readiness is deeply personal. While the surface lesson warns us to prepare for Christ's return, the deeper message is that no one else can prepare for us. Just as the foolish virgins couldn't borrow oil when the bridegroom arrived, we cannot rely on the faith of family or friends for our salvation. Each person must cultivate their own relationship with God.

To understand the Gospel we must understand a single word, "Propitiation". It means that Christ willingly took the punishment we deserved, so that God could righteously show mercy to us as sinners. His perfect sacrifice perfectly satisfied the justice of God and removed His righteous anger. No other one word tells us what salvation involves.

David's habit of avoiding difficult family conversations and his passive parenting created a perfect storm for Absalom's rebellion. Though decisive as a king, he consistently withdrew from family conflicts, failing to properly address sin. His half-hearted reconciliation attempt with Absalom, only deepened old wounds and resentment. Unresolved family issues don't simply disappear. They often explode with destructive consequences. We offer practical insights for preventing similar patterns in our own family and church.

God is light, John tells us. Christ declared that He is the light of the world. If we are to enjoy fellowship with God, we must be walking in the light, because Christ is the light. What does it mean practically to be those who walk in the light? We consider the attitude, priorities and conduct of those who are now walking in the light, having entered into a relationship with Christ Jesus.
