Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. In this text Jesus is teaching that God cares about the sexual purity of our hearts and not just our bodies. Adultery doesn't begin with the sexual affair, but the lustful look. Sorry for the inconvenience.----Summary---Jesus teaches through an illustration of a worshiper that our relationship with God and our brethren in the Lord is intimately connected. As often as we come before God in corporate and private worship, we should examine ourselves and ask God to search our hearts. Our Father is not please with mere external religious duties. He is concerned about the purity of our hearts. Therefore, we need to continually pursue right relationships with others so that we may worship God rightly with a clear conscience.

Jesus is correcting a misinterpretation of the 6th commandment in the Old Testament. The command not to murder is not just about the act of unrighteous killing. It is about the anger of the heart. Jesus teaches that God takes anger of the heart very seriously and we should too. We look into the concept of righteous anger and grapple with the question if sinful human beings are really capable of it. If so, what would it look like.
