“This is your last chance, after this there is no turning back” - can you guess what iconic movie this phrase is from which precedes an even more iconic phrase that has since taken on so many pop culture and even political meanings as of late?
You guessed it; it’s from The Matrix! When Morpheus offers Neo the chance to take the red pill or the blue pill.
But why am I bringing up a movie that debuted 20 years ago...and on P.S. Younger Self?! Because this franchise has always been more than a brilliant sci-fi trilogy. It has revealed a lot of deeper meanings and connection to our human life from references to philosophy such as gnosticism and existentialism to spirituality and religion.
And with 2020 feeling like the year we all wished was just an illusion...I asked myself would I want to take the red pill or the blue pill....knowing every raw bit of the truth, no matter how gritty and painful it can be. To be honest...this might be a hard one to swallow...no pun intended, but when I look at how I choose to make my life decisions, I want to know I’m the creator of my own life, my own masterpiece. Rather than be living in a programmed world with beliefs and ideas indoctrinated on me. Moreover a world rife with mass consumerism and our dependency on technology which can distract us from tapping into our authenticity. How about you?
I’ll rephrase the question this way, P.S. Younger Self, would you rather free your mind or live in ignorant bliss?
