Edwin and Andrew consider the background of this psalm. David recognizes that he is not alone in walking with the Lord. He is not alone in walking through dark valleys. His wording takes us back to another great servant of the Lord who also walked through dark valleys, but the Lord was his light. The Lord was with him.
