「I cry out to the Lord with my voice;

　With my voice to the Lord I make my supplication.」　Amen.

　The title reads, "Maschil of David. A prayer when David was in the cave." The meaning of "Maschil" is unclear, but it is believed to be a "Didactic Psalm" or "Instructive Psalm". At this time, David was being pursued by King Saul and he sought refuge in the caves of Adullam and the strongholds of En Gedi. David, a young man fleeing from a king, must have felt a great fear and experienced the imminent danger to his life. All he could do was pray aloud.
