Psalms Important in the New Testament

Listen Later

Today, we explored the profound connections between the Psalms and the New Testament, focusing on seven pivotal Psalms that significantly influence New Testament theology and Christology. We began with Psalm 110, a cornerstone in understanding Christ's messianic fulfillment and His divine kingship and priesthood. This Psalm, quoted extensively in the New Testament, portrays Jesus as seated at the right hand of God, emphasizing His eternal reign and priestly role in the order of Melchizedek. Through this Psalm, we see the dual nature of Christ's mission: to conquer His enemies and to establish His everlasting kingdom, serving both as a priest who atones for sins and a king who rules with justice. This dual role is crucial for understanding the full scope of Jesus' identity and work, as it encapsulates His authority over both the spiritual and earthly realms. As we delve deeper into these Psalms, we continue to uncover how the Old Testament lays a foundational understanding for the New Testament's revelation of Jesus Christ, affirming His deity, His eternal priesthood, and His unshakable kingdom.
