Psi-Friday with Mason

The Summer Solstice is here, and on this week's Psi Friday, Mason Winfield talks about the traditions, folklore, and strange stories connected to the longest day of the year. We also take a detour into the story behind the (spooky historical) shirt Mason is wearing, proving that conversations with paranormalists never stay on one topic for long.

What really happened in Mexico's mysterious Zone of Silence?

In this week's Psi-Friday, Mason continues his exploration of the disappearance of famed horror writer Ambrose Bierce and examines the possibility that his journey may have led him into one of North America's strangest regions. Located near the 27th Parallel in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert, the Zone of Silence has long been the subject of stories involving strange lights, unusual magnetic anomalies, meteorite impacts, lost travelers, radio interference, and unexplained encounters.

Why has this remote desert captured the imagination of scientists, paranormal researchers, and adventurers for decades? Is there something unique about the geography and geology of the area—or have the legends grown larger than the facts?

Join Mason as he explores the history, folklore, science, and mysteries surrounding the Zone of Silence and its connection to one of literature's most enduring disappearances.

Watch now and decide for yourself.

This week, Mason explores the fascinating story of the Fenian Brotherhood, Irish immigrants and Civil War veterans who settled in places like Buffalo's Old First Ward and dreamed of freeing Ireland from British rule. Their bold plan involved crossing into Canada and threatening the strategically important Welland Canal—a vital link in British trade and transportation.

Were their plans realistic? What actually happened when they put their ideas into action? And why does the story of the Fenians still resonate more than 150 years later?

Mason will also discuss why he has such a deep respect for Celtic culture, Irish folklore, and the immigrant communities that helped shape Buffalo's history. From rebellion and resilience to ghost stories and local legends, the legacy of the Fenians continues to echo through the streets of the Old First Ward.

And if you'd like to experience that history firsthand, join Mason this weekend for the Haunted History Ghost Walk of the Old First Ward, where history, folklore, and the supernatural come together in one of Buffalo's most storied neighborhoods.

Dive into the strange life and mysterious disappearance of Ambrose Bierce with Mason on this week’s Psi-Friday. Civil War veteran, satirist, horror writer, and one of America’s darkest literary minds, Bierce vanished without a trace in Mexico in 1913…and nobody truly knows what happened to him. Was it murder, suicide, espionage, or something even stranger?

Plus, we tease our next episode exploring one of the weirdest places on Earth: The Zone of Silence.

Psi-Friday with Mason returns this week with a more personal and spiritual turn.

In this episode, Mason reflects on his friendship with the late Lydia Fish, a beloved folklore professor whose stories and presence left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered. He shares a story she once told just for him—Three Ships to Troy—and explores how that moment has stayed with him over the years.

What unfolds is part memory, part tribute, and part spiritual download. Mason connects Lydia’s life and influence to deeper themes of storytelling, legacy, and the unseen threads that bind people across time.

Woven into the episode is a journey back to ancient Greece, touching on the world of The Iliad by Homer—a story over 3,000 years old that still echoes today. Through it all, Mason brings together folklore, history, and something more intangible… the feeling that certain stories are meant to find us.

A thoughtful, reflective episode for anyone interested in the deeper meaning behind the stories we carry—and the people who give them to us.

In this episode of Psi Friday with Mason, we follow a moment that stuck with him for years—a drive along Route 1-77 near Beckley, South Carolina, where everything changed in an instant.

Mason connects the moment to something familiar to Buffalo fans—Marv Levy’s father's famous line, “Be a good one.” But this story goes deeper than a quote. It’s about listening, timing… and the kind of moment you don’t quite know how to explain.

In this episode of Psi-Friday, paranormal researcher and folklorist Mason Winfield counts down his Top 10 Bogies in Ohio — the mysterious creatures he affectionately calls “Critters.” From shadowy woods to rural backroads, Ohio has long been a hotspot for strange encounters, and Mason brings decades of research and storytelling to the table.

Bigfoot takes the #1 spot, but what about the other nine? Mason walks through each one, sharing eyewitness lore, regional history, and his professional opinion on whether these creatures might be folklore, misidentification… or something more.

If you love the unexplainable, local legends, and deep dives into paranormal folklore, this is a must-watch episode.

Tune in and decide for yourself — which Ohio Critter do you believe?

This week, Mason dives into one of the strangest Bigfoot hotspots—Northeast Ohio. Why have so many sightings been reported there in a recent short amount of time? And what’s behind the legend of this elusive presence in the woods?

Is it just folklore… or something deeper moving through that region?

Why do Buffalo’s streets slice across each other at unusual angles?

In this week’s Psi-Friday, Mason explores the legacy of Joseph Ellicott — the early surveyor often credited with shaping Buffalo’s radial design (though historians debate exactly who deserves that title). Instead of a simple grid, the city was mapped with spokes radiating outward, cutting diagonally through the landscape.

Some see practical Enlightenment-era planning. Others see something more symbolic.

Freemasons have long emphasized geometry, angles, cardinal directions, and hidden meaning in architecture. Was Buffalo’s layout simply visionary urban design — or a quiet nod to sacred geometry?

Even more curious: certain angled corridors have collected their share of paranormal reports over the years.

Coincidence… pattern… or something embedded in the bones of the Queen City?

Psi-Friday is back with Mason Winfield, and this week’s episode dives into one of the strangest (and most fascinating) true paranormal experiments ever attempted: The Russian Bunny Experiment.

Could animals have ESP? Soviet researchers once tried to find out by testing rabbits for extrasensory perception, with results that raise more questions than answers. Mason breaks down the story, the science, and the eerie implications behind it all.

Listen now and decide for yourself what the bunnies knew.
