What an absolute cracking episode with Summer Breeze Myco, hosted by Psycho Platy and Shroom.
We kicked things off by diving into how Summer Breeze first found his way into mycology, from humble beginnings experimenting at the kitchen sink to becoming a respected cultivator and community member. It was a great reminder that every grower starts somewhere, and often with more curiosity than experience.
One of the highlights of the episode was hearing about his favourite mushroom to grow:
“JMF. Those little tall bastards are fun to grow.”
The conversation expanded beyond cultivation as we explored his passion for photography, a love passed down from his grandad. It was fascinating hearing how photography and mycology intersect, and how mushrooms can inspire creativity in so many different ways.
We also discussed the incredible variety within the hobby itself. Mycology isn’t just growing mushrooms—it’s genetics, microscopy, agar work, photography, research, community building, and so much more. There truly is a place for everyone.
Living in Australia brings its own challenges, and Summer Breeze shared some valuable insights into managing cultivation through fluctuating temperatures and harsh conditions. His practical advice for newer growers was simple but important: stay patient, keep learning, and don’t be discouraged by setbacks.
The episode also touched on one of his proudest cultivation moments—running a successful grow alongside Bluey V’s after experimenting and adjusting his ratios. It was a great example of how small refinements and persistence can lead to impressive results.
Whether you’re brand new to mycology or have years of experience under your belt, this episode is packed with relatable stories, useful advice, and a genuine passion for the craft.
A huge thank you to Summer Breeze Myco for joining us and sharing his journey.
