  • 046 - MAKE the Lanterns Transform!

This week, MJ & Nath roll out the red carpet for some very special guests as they welcome the committee behind the Melbourne Alternative IComics Expo (MAKE)!

The boys chat with the team about the upcoming expo in October, how MAKE came to life, the story behind the event and what exciting things fans and creators can expect across the three days. If independent comics are your thing, this is one conversation you won’t want to miss.

Then Nath brings out the show and tell, unveiling two new Transformers Blokees before taking a trip down memory lane with Transformers: The Movie on the big screen.

It’s full Green ahead as the boys dive into the latest episode of Lanterns, while The Aisle delivers plenty of comic chat, including why the latest comic from Madcave is titled Escape from New York: Escape from Chicago and also an enthusiastic look at Chachu #2.

Add plenty of laughs, comic book conversation and the usual positive vibes, and you’ve got another packed episode of Pulp Culture Podcast!

  • 045 - Let’s Get Dangerous!

Let’s get dangerous! MJ & Nath swing into another week of Pulp Culture Podcast with plenty of pop culture goodness, nostalgia and comic book chaos.

Darkwing Duck takes centre stage with the announcement of a brand-new animated series, while the character who helped inspire the masked hero gets his own spotlight as the boys celebrate Batman Day with a look at the Caped Crusader.

Over in The Aisle, it’s a nine-panel extravaganza as MJ & Nath chat about new comics that have caught their attention that have nine panels. Then it’s time to talk Lanterns, with the boys keeping things completely spoiler-free as they discuss everyone’s favourite new series.

There’s no Weird Files this week, but we’re making up for it by taking a trip down nostalgia lane with Battle of the Planets.

So grab your cape, cue the theme music and join MJ & Nath for another week of movies, TV, comics, nostalgia and plenty of pop culture conversation.

  • 044 - Crashes, Comics & Cow Milking

After a week off, MJ & Nath are back and better than they were before. Better… stronger… and somehow even more argumentative.

The boys kick things off in The Zest with trailer chats, Emmy winners and the latest TV reboot news before diving into another edition of The Weird Files. This week’s bizarre story hits a little too close to home for Nath, while MJ attempts to convince Nath that the segment needs a rest. Spoiler alert: that’s not happening.

Things get even stranger when a 1970s Milky the Cow advertisement leaves MJ thoroughly grossed out, while Nath reaches for some mini vinyl to soothe the soul. Because apparently that’s the logical response.

MJ then attempts the impossible with a rapid-fire rundown of all the comics he’s read over the past two weeks, while the boys agree that Lanterns Episode 5 feels like a finale… even though it absolutely isn’t.

Add plenty of opinions, hot takes, bizarre cow-related merchandise and the usual MJ & Nath banter, and you've got another episode of Pulp Culture Podcast that’s stronger, stranger and definitely more argumentative.

  • 043 - Beef and Bizarre Hand Signs

If you’re vegetarian, you might want to sit this one out because MJ & Nath have got beef. And plenty of it.

The boys break down the announcement of Days of Thunder 2, including the inevitable question: what exactly do you call people who love Anne Hathaway? Are they Hathamites or Hathuanians? Whatever they're called, they've probably got beef with Nath.

Nath is throwing hand signs around like he’s either joined a gang or has simply fallen asleep on his arm, and MJ has beef with it. Meanwhile, Lanterns chat returns as the boys discuss the importance of telling stories from different backgrounds and perspectives.

Nath reviews Chachu, the new limited series written by Ms. Marvel herself, Iman Vellani, before asking the question: Should celebrities be writing comics? Let's just say, you guessed it... there's beef.

The Mos Eisley Mailbag also makes its triumphant return, thanks to MJ and that deformed toaster, Cyril. And because apparently MJ hasn't suffered enough, The Weird Files serves up another tale that can only be described as the Fast and the Food-ious.

So, where's the beef? Right here. And this week, the steaks are definitely high on the Pulp Culture Podcast.

  • 042 - One Sentence Wendy's Whopper

The boys are back in town for another whopper of an episode, and this week they've got plenty to talk about! From fiery stunts on the set of The Mummy 4 to last-minute casting changes for the new Harry Potter series, MJ & Nath have the latest covered.

There's more spoiler-free chat about HBO Max's Lanterns, and you'd better get used to it, because there are still six more weeks of this cosmic conversation to come!

Over in The Aisle, the comic talk covers a very eclectic bunch: bugs, soldiers, clowns and drivers. Nath also shares his double experience visiting Melbourne's first Wendy's, because apparently this is now essential pop culture journalism.

There's no Weird Files this week, much to MJ's delight, but something new takes its place: One Sentence Cinema. Nath describes a famous movie using one deliberately obscure sentence, and MJ has to figure out what the heck he's talking about.

Big news, comics, fast food and cinematic brain teasers, it's another whopper of a week on the Pulp Culture Podcast.

  • 041 - Fake Green Lizard Laterns

MJ & Nath are back and fully charged, bringing you all the big news from Disney’s D23 Fan Expo. But that’s just the start of this week’s power surge of pop culture.

It’s a huge week for TV, with Ted Lasso, a new season of Reacher, the conclusion of X-Men ’97 Season 2, and the moment the boys have been waiting for, Episode 1 of HBO Max & DC Studios’ Lanterns. Did it live up to the hype? The boys put it under the spotlight.

Over in The Aisle, there’s plenty of comic book chat, including last week’s special co-host Benji Bajorek new printing of his comic The Flower.

And because the Weird Files refuses to stay in the shadows, this week brings another bizarre tale involving a fake lizard. It gets weird enough for MJ to challenge Nath to come back next week with the freeze-and-whistle technique.

So charge your rings, raise your constructs and prepare for another week of pop culture power as the Pulp Culture Podcast is ready to patrol the fandom.

  • 040 - Granny's 40th Issue with Benji

This week, Pulp Culture turns 40! And what better gift could you give yourself at 40 than a very special guest? Enter Benji Bajorek, the No. 1 ticket holder of the Pulp Nation, joining MJ & Nath for a chat about all things pop culture.

From going viral in The Weird Files thanks to Granny’s Illegal Casino, to time-travelling TV shows and movies, and in true celebratory fashion chat about their favourite fortieth comic book issue.

And because apparently one appearance wasn't enough, Granny is back for another round in The Weird Files. Plus, the boys take a trip down memory lane to revisit their favourite Simpsons episodes and the one-liners that have somehow stayed in their brains for decades.

Forty episodes, one very special guest, questionable Granny activity and plenty of Simpsons quotes. Pulp Culture has officially hit 40 and we're only getting started!

  • 039 - Spiders, Sirens and Scams

MJ & Nath are back with another epic helping of pop culture goodness, diving into The Odyssey and giving their spoiler-free thoughts on Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Whether you're sailing with heroes or swinging through the city, the boys have you covered.

Over in The Weird Files, things take a gamble with the bizarre tale of a retirement home casino, because apparently bingo just wasn't exciting enough.

The Mos Eisley Mailbag returns, bringing with it the unfortunate reappearance of Cyril, everyone's least favourite deformed toaster. Nath's disappointment is matched only by MJ's amusement.

There's also a stack of reviews celebrating the best new Australian comics, and in what may be the biggest surprise of the episode... Nath actually apologises. MJ, naturally, intends to enjoy every second of it.

Spoiler-free reviews, weird news, indie comics and an apology nobody saw coming, it's another big week on the Pulp Culture Podcast.

  • 038 - SDCC: The Biggest Nerd Holiday

This week, the usual segments are taking a well-earned break because it's the biggest nerd holiday of the year, San Diego Comic-Con 2026, and it has absolutely exploded with news!

MJ & Nath dive headfirst into the biggest reveals from the world's biggest pop culture event, covering everything from movies, TV, comics and toys to trailers, announcements and surprises you may have missed. Whether you've been glued to the internet all weekend or somehow avoided the hype, the boys have done the heavy lifting for you.

Okay... they may have squeezed in a few comic reviews, but let's be honest, comics are life, so there was never any chance of skipping those.

No detours, no distractions (well... almost none), just wall-to-wall Comic-Con coverage with the usual laughs, hot takes and Pulp Culture enthusiasm.

  • 037 - Conventions, Curses & Questionable Accents

This week, MJ & Nath are back with another packed episode of pop culture goodness! MJ kicks things off by sharing stories from his very first convention adventure, while Nath was... well... off sick, leaving MJ to fly the Pulp flag solo.

There's a bumper edition of The Zest with all the latest pop culture news, while The Tomb cracks open once again as the boys review another episode of The Mummy: The Animated Series and it's cursed.

Over in the Mos Eisley Mailbag, there's sadly no deformed toaster Cyril this week, but don't worry, the Weird Files more than makes up for it with the return of Florida Man, this time Naked!?!

To round things out, Nath continues his long-running tradition of butchering surnames, while MJ once again voices concern over Nath's increasingly questionable accents.

Conventions, cursed mummies, comic chat and comedy gold, it's another wonderfully chaotic week on the Pulp Culture Podcast.
