The Surangama Heart mantra is from the Surangama Mantra, king of all mantras. If you wish to recite the Surangama mantra but don't have the time or capacity to memorise it completely, you can recite the Surangama heart mantra (108 times or more); the merit is the same.

The mantra is known for it's supreme power to eliminate all karmic obstacles and remove all negative energy for practitioners.

If someone has sleep paralysis, nightmares, depression, etc., chanting this Heart Mantra can break all obstacles.

It is also good for Pure Land practitioners to practice this mantra for meditative concentration, if one finds chanting just 'Amituofo' to be "too simple" or "too boring".

I'm introducing different Mantras and Dharanis for people with different roots, capacities and preferences. If one transfers the merit of chanting this mantra towards being reborn in the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha and practices Nianfo, one can still be reborn in Amitabha Buddha's Pure Land.

Surangama Mantra 🙏

Surangama mantra or dharani is known as the king of all mantras in Chinese Mahayana Buddhism.

It has the power to defeat all evils (and all kinds of black magic etc.) For one who recites the surangama mantra, it can help eliminate all karmic obstacles. In additiion, for one who recites the Surangama mantra, it can help in attaining rebirth in Amitabha Buddha's Pure Land at the end of life, as the mantra also contains Amitabha Buddha's name (and also enables one to freely choose to attain rebirth in other Pure Lands. However, we recommend Amitabha Buddha's Pure Land as always!)

It's of course much more complicated to recite the Surangama mantra. For Nianfo practitioners, one can simply recite Amituofo with faith and vow, as it's more than sufficient to attain rebirth in Amitabha Buddha's Pure Land.

For those who have very good roots and have a keen mind to learn and with good memory, one can also study the Surangama mantra.
