Noé Vagner-Clévenot takes us into the life of Maria Theresia of Habsburg: just the elder daughter of an Emperor, she asserted herself, after a turbulent accession marked by a fierce international war, as his rightful successor, in an era where female rule was the exception. The founder of a 16-children family with a husband she adores, her 40-year reign, in which she had to balance her duties as sovereign, wife and mother, remains seen today as one of the most successful of the Habsburg dynasty.
