Purple Reign

Ever since the Vancouver Goldeneyes played their first game at Pacific Coliseum our Pluto has an idea about what it would be like to have all of the PWHL teams be able to have theirs on center iceI let him take the floor while also posing some devil's advocate scenarios in what is a very lighthearted edition of the Purple Reign podcast

The PWHL Starting Six is where each month the league will recognise three forwards, two defenders and one goaltenderIn this final Starting Six recap for the 2025/26 season the Purple Trio celebrate the Starting Six for the month of May 2026

With the 2026 Expansion Process now complete the Purple Trio come together to take stock of what each of the current existing teams loss The biggest winners were the Goldeneyes who not only were barely touched but even managed to get one of their players back whilst on the other hand the Charge are the biggest losers and we don't let them forget it as promised

Last week the fourth annual PWHL Entry Draft took place in one of its newest markets as we found out how ready Detroit is to enter the league as 72 players in total were draftedThe big takeaway was that our Pluto was the cat who got the cream as the Vancouver Goldeneyes did select KK first overall and I have a feeling Lady and me aren't going to hear the end of itThe three of us come together to look back on all of the highlights from the biggest night in Hockeytown

Now I love Hillary Knight but the drama involving her during Phase 2 of the Expansion Process I did not like as until the roster freeze was lifted it was pretty much classic he said she saidI even got a headache from it as I couldn't work out who was to blame, PWHL Detroit, PWHL Las Vegas or even Hillary herself

The Purple Trio bring you their final recap of the Expansion Process as Phase 4 saw the expansion teams complete their ten signings with some even having to go to selection to fill their rostersHowever just when you thought things were settled going into the draft some expansion teams chose to play pass the parcel and give some signings back in exchange for draft picks

We've known since going to see Waitress that Kim Weiss was going to get hired by PWHL Las Vegas but the organisation chose to wait until her current team concluded their season before making it officialI have to give respect to DiDia for this move as it shows that she wants to change the bad culture that Las Vegas has largely thanks to the Golden Knights and their hate

Following making their first head coach walk the plank it hasn't gone plain sailing for the Seattle Torrent as they along with this year's Walter Cup Finalists have been heavily targeted by the expansion teamsSo it's probably a relief for their organisation that one of their assistant coaches has been promoted to the top job and to Lady's delight it's a woman

The Toronto Sceptres have found their new head coach who we all believe could do great things for the organisation and could be the guy to take the Sceptres forward especially after the way expansion has unfoldedThere is one interesting thing about the hiring and that it is none other than the brother of the general manager for PWHL Detroit

The IIHF World Championships will take place in Denmark between the 6-16 November 2026 and the entire Purple Trio couldn't be more excited as we now have the full schedule locked in our diariesAnd of course with the shift in calendar it does mean that there will now be women's hockey on my birthday as this year USA will face off against Germany in Group A action
