  • When Church Teachings Cause Harm: Sheila Wray Gregoire on Marriage, Submission & Abuse

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when the teachings meant to strengthen Christian marriages actually contribute to shame, inequality, and even abuse?

This episode was a joy to record and a personal one for me.

I sit down with bestselling author, speaker, and researcher @sheilagregoire of the Bare Marriage Podcast and author of The Great Sex Rescue, to challenge some of the deeply rooted beliefs surrounding marriage, sex, submission, and gender roles within evangelical Christianity.

Sheila shares her personal faith journey and what led her to question popular Christian marriage teachings. Together, we explore how the misuse of Scripture, distorted definitions of submission, and messages promoted through Christian books and church culture can create unhealthy power dynamics, silence women, and perpetuate cycles of harm.

At the heart of this conversation is an important question: Are we teaching people to follow Jesus, or are we defending religious traditions that sometimes hurt the very people we're called to love?

This episode is an invitation to rethink what we've been taught, recognize harmful patterns, and rediscover a faith rooted in truth, mutual respect, freedom, and the redemptive love of Jesus.

Because pursuing redemption sometimes means having the courage to question what we've always believed.

  • Breaking Free from the Lies of Abuse: My Story of Healing and Redemption

    Send us Fan Mail

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I'm sharing one of the most personal parts of my journey: my own story of surviving domestic violence, breaking free from abuse, and discovering the healing and redemption only God can bring.

Abuse leaves wounds that go far beyond what others can see. The emotional scars, broken trust, shame, and lies we come to believe about ourselves can linger long after the abuse has ended. But our past does not have to define our future.

In this deeply personal episode of Pursuing Redemption, I step into the guest seat to share my experience of surviving an abusive marriage, finding the courage to break free, and walking through the often painful journey of healing and restoration.

I open up about the lies abuse planted in my heart, the struggle to rediscover my identity and worth, and how Jesus met me in my deepest brokenness. Through His love and grace, I discovered that healing is possible, freedom is real, and even our most painful experiences can become a source of hope for others.

My prayer is that this conversation reminds every survivor that what happened to you does not define who you are, and your past does not disqualify you from the purpose God has for your life.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let's break the silence, bring hope to those who are hurting, and remind survivors that they are seen, valued, loved, and worthy of a life free from abuse.

Your story isn't over. Healing is possible. Redemption is real.

What if the very places where we feel most broken are the places where God wants to bring the greatest healing?

In this powerful episode of Pursuing Redemption, I sit down with Willow Weston, author, speaker, podcast host, and founder of Collide Ministries, for an honest conversation about pain, insecurity, healing, and the transforming power of Jesus.

We explore how unresolved wounds impact our relationships, why vulnerability matters, and how our own healing can become a source of hope for others.

  • When the Struggle Is Trying to Tell You Something: Healing with Heather O’Brien

    Send us Fan Mail

What if the anxiety, shame, fear, or emotional struggle you keep fighting isn’t the real problem, but a signal pointing to something deeper?

In this episode of Pursuing Redemption, I sit down with Heather O’Brien, author, minister, and host of the Heal with God podcast, for a conversation about what it means to pursue healing with God rather than simply learning how to live with our pain.

Heather’s message comes from a deeply personal place. After walking through her own struggles with depression, anxiety, addiction, and shame, she began a journey of learning to hear God’s voice and allowing Him into the deeper places of her life that needed healing. Today, she helps other Christians do the same. Heather shares why emotions like anxiety, fear, guilt, shame, and unforgiveness can sometimes serve as signals that something deeper needs our attention, and how we can begin asking God what is really happening beneath the surface.

We also explore one of the central messages of Heather’s new book, Heal with God: healing isn’t about following the perfect formula or saying the perfect prayer. It is about developing a relationship with God, learning to recognize His voice, discovering His truth, and inviting Him into the places where we have felt stuck.

This conversation gets to the heart of Pursuing Redemption. Our painful experiences may be part of our story, but they don't have to be the end of it. There can be another chapter. There can be healing and freedom. And sometimes the very thing we have been trying desperately to get rid of may be pointing us toward the place where healing needs to begin.

Pursuing Redemption with Duke White | Learning to Hope After Hardship

Duke White of the GoodVue Network sits down with me to talk about a story I never imagined I would one day have the courage to tell, my story of abuse, survival, healing, and learning to hope again.

For years, I carried the wounds of abuse and the lies that came with them. But the Lord has healed me and is leading me to finally telling my story, not simply to revisit the pain, but to share what it looks like to find peace, freedom, and hope on the other side.

My story, Deeply Wounded Hope, explores surviving abuse and the healing journey of coming into right relationship with the Trinity. God Box continues that journey, and Shake Off the Lies, the newest book in the trilogy, focuses on untangling the lies we've believed and learning to believe God's best for our lives.

If you or someone you love is walking through the aftermath of abuse or simply trying to find hope after a season of deep hardship, this episode is for you.

My prayer is that through this conversation, you would discover that your story isn't over. There can be peace after chaos, love after hurt, and hope after the deepest wounds.

There is mercy on the other side. And with God, there is redemption.

  • Finding God, the Real Dad with Lisa "Sunshine" Jennett

    Send us Fan Mail

In this powerful and deeply personal episode, I sit down with Lisa Jennett, better known as “Sunshine,” to talk about a story marked by pain, healing, humor, and an unexpected encounter that changed everything.

Lisa opens up about overcoming childhood abuse and the journey that ultimately led her to truly meet Jesus and discover what she calls “God, Real Dad” at Jesus Jail, a women’s retreat that became a defining moment in her life.

But Lisa’s story is anything but ordinary.

A self-described “less than tall” woman in her early sixties, Lisa has spent most of her life in Texas, with a chapter in Scotland along the way. She and her Santa Claus-variety husband, affectionately known as Tank, share six kids, around ten grandkids, or “natural wonders of the world,” and a love for traveling with friends, Harley trips, and discovering distant dive restaurants.

For the past 25 years, Lisa has made her living as a landscaper. She renames people because she sometimes sees them differently than everyone else does.

Behind all that humor is a woman who is madly, insanely in love with what she calls “the Triplets”: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

That love is what gives Lisa the courage to step outside her comfort zone and share parts of her story she would much rather keep private. She shares them because she knows what it feels like to need healing, to need a Father, and to discover a love powerful enough to change your life.

This is a conversation about surviving what happened to you, discovering who God really is, and finding the courage to invite someone else into the same hope and healing you've found.

  • Kingdom Entrepreneurship and Following Jesus with Coach Joshua Eze

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when you stop building your life around what you can accomplish and start building it around who God says you are?

In this powerful episode of Pursuing Redemption, I sit down with Coach Joshua Eze to talk about faith, identity, purpose, and what it looks like to let Jesus transform every area of your life, including your career and dreams.

Joshua shares his journey of coming to know Jesus and how his faith gradually became woven into his professional journey and coaching business. He opens up about some of his biggest “aha” moments with God and the profound difference between living from orphanhood versus sonship and how our identity can shape the way we approach our relationships, calling, work, and future.

Together, we talk about the roadblocks that keep us from allowing God to lead, the unnecessary limitations and bondages we place on ourselves, and what it means to live with a breaker mindset — breaking through the things that have held us back and learning to walk in the freedom God has given us.

Joshua also offers encouragement for anyone who feels like they have been running the race for a long time, yet the dream or promise still seems out of reach. What do you do when you've been faithful, but you haven't seen the breakthrough? How do you keep dreaming when the promise hasn't come to pass?

This conversation is a reminder that redemption isn't simply about where you've been, it's about allowing Jesus to redefine your identity, restore your hope, and lead you into the life He has called you to live.
