Pushback with Dr. Jonny

Dr. Jonny breaks down the midterm election results not from a political stand-point, but from a kingdom and cultural perspective. He explains that when a nation is so culturally divided, especially on the issue that matters most, it is imperative that the message of the kingdom is clear, coherent and changes the heart of the people. 

Unfettered use of cell phone devices can have a negative impact on our children’s physical and mental health and, ironically, social media has severe consequences on our children’s social behavior. We need to restore precious (device-free) human interaction, where we can listen and be heard. Dr. Jonny implores parents to be powerful in setting boundaries and giving strategies to help our children navigate the world of technology. 

With the perspective of an ER Physician, Dr. Jonny tackles the topic of drugs and alcohol, as he continues his series on Powerful Parenting. The statistics paint an ominous picture of drug and alcohol abuse among young people. They are desperately looking for a solution to treat their pain, anxiety and depression. This solidifies the importance of parents setting boundaries and providing strategies for their children in this destructive culture.

Dr. Jonny continues on his “Top 10 List” of topics for powerful parenting. This week he discusses origins and worldview. Evolution isn’t a scientific law, but rather a secular religion being taught everyday to our children. This religion teaches a lifeless, hopeless, and purposeless doctrine that has serious consequences on all aspects of society. Parents need to be confident, personally and scientifically, that the the purposeful message of the Bible is accurate, true and can be trusted!

Dr. Jonny begin a series on powerful parenting designed to help parents provide boundaries and strategies for their children facing a concerning culture. This podcasts addresses the definition of “woke” and how we as Christians can engage this cultural conversation with honor and compassion.  Our children don’t need to compromise or takes sides, but rather be a mediator and have an answer for our culture’s problems.

Parental Discretion Advised. The Father created us spirit, soul and body.  Our soul consist of our mind, will, emotions and feelings and are meant to be connected or given to others within loving boundaries. If our soul and bodies are given away outside of these boundaries, unhealthy soul ties are created that cause us to become sick and destructively connected. Parents were given the assignment to help our children navigate these tricky waters and provide boundaries and strategy.

Dr, Jonny reviews the movie “A Hidden Life” about an Austrian peasant farmer who refused to take the oath of allegiance to Hitler during World War II, and sacrificed everything, including his life, because of his God-given convictions.  Although we are called to be extraordinary people, it is often the convictions of the heart and the regular everyday decisions we make before the Lord and our families that make the most impact.

We as parents cannot just helplessly bob down the river of culture and hope everything will be OK. We need to plant our feet, turn around and pushback against the current. Dr. Jonny provides a list of current cultural challenges that every child faces today to be a spring-board for discussion between parents and their children. Now is the time for powerful parents to give their children intentionality, hope, loving boundaries and strategy.

The liberal pro-abortion activists and media are labelling the pro-life position as extreme, in a last ditch effort to garner some enthusiasm prior to mid-term elections. Ironically, their extreme position is rejected by 9 of out of 10 Americans. This alone should embolden the pro-life message and encourage us to stand up to the bullying. Unfortunately, Dr. Jonny explains, there have been some politicians walking back their support of life, demonstrating that the election is more important than conviction. History will remember 2022 for the overturning of Roe v Wade, how will history remember us?

Dr. Jonny shares what he learned from his family while sitting around the campfire this weekend. He was delighted and inspired by his children sharing their perspective on caring for the poor and needy. The Bible is clear that the poor belong to us as followers of Christ, and we don’t need government hand-outs to meet the needs of those around us. Generosity is a core heavenly culture and we can tap into His unending resources.
