A primary relationship is a husband and wife, parent and child, or brother and sister. This means, by definition, that all other relationships are secondary. It is time for our culture to prioritize primary relationships, which means we consider them prior to all other life decisions. Our marriages are the "primariest" of all relationships and the world should see that you honor it, defend it, protect it and even fight for it!
If we aren't careful, something that can start as noble can turn into an unhealthy, negative mindset. Our country was founded on a Declaration of Independence, but an independent mindset is counter-cultural to God's plan for His people. Dr. Jonny calls for a cultural shift, starting with marriages, toward a healthy dependence on one another. He is a relational God, and He designed us to need Him and each other!
This topic contains mature material, parental discretion is advised. Many would agree that the Super Bowl Halftime Show was completely inappropriate. Dr. Jonny encourages his listeners to not just complain to each other, but proactively and with honor, discuss these issues with those who have the power to make real change. He demonstrates this by reading a letter he wrote to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. When common ground is found, we can be vocal about the cultural problem, and also be part of the solution!
Family can be powerful or painful. When family hurts we can be tempted to redefine or dilute it, so that it doesn't hurt so bad. Dr. Jonny shares humorous and powerful examples of how everything in our culture is being referred to as family. Rather than dilution, we need to seek restoration of the Father's original plan for family. Your family was the original plan and there is no plan B!
The "Me Too" movement not only uncovered the problem of sexual harassment and assault in the workplace, but exposed the root of cultural brokenness on how we view sexuality as a whole. Our 50 year experiment of "free love and sex" has proven one thing...it isn't working! Dr. Jonny proposes finding identity and self-respect by not giving ourselves away or trying to find something that free sex can never provide. This episode contains mature material, parental discretion is advised.
Evolution is presented to our culture as fact, maybe even law. However, the evolutionary worldview doesn't stand up to the scientific requirements for a law, a fact, or even a theory! It takes way more faith to believe in evolution than in creation! Evolutionary science is really bad science and has a damaging effect on the health of our culture. Whether you are a scientist, a pastor, a parent or a student, you can be confident in the science of a creationist worldview.
The current culture is trying to convince us that boundaries are constricting and limiting, but we all live in boundaries, and they were created by our Father, so that we would feel safe and secure. In fact, only within boundaries can we and our children live in complete freedom! As parents, the boundaries we place are beautiful and desperately wanted by our children!
Dr. Jonny explores the power of living in a culture of honor. We should be passionate and at times even angry about issues that effect our culture, but unrestrained anger actually closes the door to the very thing we want to see changed. Honor creates open doors of influence and intimacy, whereas dishonor creates distance. We are ambassadors of the higher way, so we don't need to shout or defame. We can calmly defend our position and engage the culture to bring about real change.
Dr. Jonny shares his transparent and powerful story that has led him to deliver the Pushback podcast. As a husband, father, physician and family minister he has seen "the good, the bad and the ugly" of family and our culture. Rather than become discouraged, he has chosen to pushback and engage the culture to bring real transformation and restoration. He explains how Pushback can be used as a discussion tool for family, small groups or youth groups. Dr. Jonny cares deeply about you, your family and our culture!
Culture Wars… it’s not a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… it’s right here, right now, but is it a war worth fighting? As Christian families we are not helpless victims of the culture, we are to set and shape the culture. We have been given a mandate to reproduce the Father's original culture and compassionately engage the earth, and there is no Plan B! To find more resources on culture and family visit goFam.org
