While I was watching the TV series Yellowstone the other day, there was a line that stood out to me; John Dutton told his son, “words are weapons now.” I’ve been thinking a lot about that… words are weapons. Words have the ability to tarnish a person’s career, get someone convicted of a crime, bully someone into self-hate and suicide. If we have the ability to speak (or type) and we know that words can harness such power, then why can’t we change how we use them? If we think positively, then we speak positively and therefore spark positive changes in the world around us! I know none of this is rocket science, but I just had a lot of thoughts and feelings that I needed to get off my chest, hence episode 4 of Put It On My Tab.
Today we are adding Anthem by Father John Misty to our playlist.
Ruthie Ridley is a woman fighting for justice AND pro law enforcement… an unlikely duo. You see, because Ruthie is a woman of color married to a white police officer. Ruthie was born in Jamaica and her husband in England. Together they have three first generation American children. Not only is she a wife and a mother, but she is also a full-time registered nurse, host of her podcast My Girl Podcast and a fashion blogger. She has style, she has grace and she is changing the world one uplifting message at a time. Today we are adding Shower The People by James Taylor to our playlist.
Marissa Mullen is a Brooklyn based connoisseur of cheese, a magician of iPhone photography, the author of That Cheese Plate Will Change Your Life. Marissa has been hustling since age 16 when she was volunteering for band street teams and non profits, later on becoming Meghan Trainor’s personal tour videographer/photographer, interning for Jimmy Fallon, working on the late show with Stephen Colbert and then ultimately giving it all up to follow her passion of designing cheese boards. Yes, you heard that right… cheese boards?
In today's episode, Marissa shows us just how you can take a passion and turn it into a full on profession! @thatcheeseplate and @cheesebynumbers have been featured on The Today Show, Live with Kelly and Ryan, the Racheal Ray show and in People Magazine, Refinery 29, Us Weekly, Food Network… but I don't want to give away Marissa's whole story, so sit back and enjoy!
Today we are adding Like A Dream by Francis and the Lights to our playlist.
Hi, I'm Lex Brinton. I'm a wife, a mother of 3, a small business owner, a college graduate, a filmmaker, a house remodeler, a connoisseur of good food, a family travel advocate, a published author and today is the day that I add "starting a podcast" to my tab. I am fascinated with humans and the overall art of communication. As a mother of 3, my conversations are limited to anyone 6 years of age and under. Put It On My Tab is my outlet to sit down with people who inspire me. People who have plenty of things on their tab, but are pushing through, hustling and crossing those things off one by one.
Que sera sera, whatever will be will be. A mantra that I remind myself of daily. This episode is a deeper and more comprehensive account of my life. A vocalization of parts of me that I never thought I would share with anyone... let alone complete strangers! I figured if I took the time to share these parts of me early on than 1. you would gain a greater sense of who I am at my core and 2. I won’t have to share these parts of me again (too much vulnerability for a enneagram number 8).
The majority of this episode is spent talking about my kids, one more so than the others. I guess you could say that I am a mother to a child with “special needs,” “disabled",” “handicapped;" all of the terms that we choose not to associate with him or speak in our home. I am living proof that when life throws you a million things to put on your tab, it is possible to come out victorious on the other side.
Today we are adding Que Sera Sera by Doris Day to our playlist.
