In this episode, Sheriff McFadden sits down with several folks in the community asking him about crime, car break-ins over the holidays, and some of his proudest moments.

In the video, Sheriff McFadden briefly touches on his time in Wilmington for the North Carolina Sheriff Association Spring Conference and what he and other sheriffs consider to be important goals and issues to tackle this year. Some of these include, how to prepare for natural disasters, like in the case of Hurricane Helene, and how to address the lack of communication/cell service outage in the aftermath. Other topics centered around gun laws and officer mental health and wellness.

In the video above, Sheriff McFadden discusses an incident that happened at the courthouse on April 8 where a woman experienced a medical emergency. That's when MCSO deputies sprung into action and took every step possible to save her life, including CPR, AED devices and Naloxone (narcan) sprays. The Sheriff emphasizes the importance of having these tools on hand, so our deputies are always ready to efficiently react and respond.

Did you know? Currently, women represent less than 14% of sworn officers and 20% of recruits in state and local law enforcement agencies (Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics).In the video above, Sheriff McFadden outlines the Bureau Of Justice Assistance's 30X30 Initiative, which aims for law enforcement agencies to be made up of at least 30 percent women by the year 2030. MCSO has already surpassed that number. Sheriff breaks down the numbers within the agency and encourages other law enforcement agencies to follow suit.

March 28, 2025 marked a significant milestone for staff at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center. It's been a full year since MCSO has had an in-custody death. MCSO would like to attribute this success to the hard work of its Detention Center staff and its new medical provider, Vital Core Health Strategies. Although residents often enter the facility with underlying illnesses, Sheriff McFadden says he will remain committed to reducing the number of in-custody deaths at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

In the video above, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden emphasizes the lack of discussion surrounding House Bill 10, that Mecklenburg County is NOT a sanctuary county and the dire need for ICE to collaborate with local sheriffs to clear up confusion and ease fears for our immigrant communities.

As we enter 2025, MCSO deputies and CMPD officers are stepping up their presence in the community, driving through college and high school campuses and keeping their lights on through the streets. Our officers are moving past, "See something, say something". Now, it's time to do something.
