This season is a full of interviews with family, old friends and some new friends. I asked them to help me discuss the descriptive words that Paul uses in his book of the Bible, I Corinthians Chapter 13, to describe what love is. This was a chapter of the Bible that I would skip over because it seemed impossible to operate in that kind of love. But what I've come to realize is ...this is the kind of love that Jesus shows me and, because of that, I am able to show it to others. Join us for the next 14 episodes as we discuss what Love Is.

On today's episode, I'm joined by my son Jaymison Parker and his new bride Brianna. When I approached them about doing an interview with me this season, I told them to look over the descriptive words Paul uses to define love in I Corinthians 13 and choose one that resonated with them. I was surprised to hear that they picked Love is patient. I'm really looking forward to hearing how love has been patient with them and then how they have been able to joyfully extend patience to each other and others.

So far in Season 1 we've talked about the character and love of God and how His love changes us. I felt it was a great idea to end the season with a Biblical example of someone who was changed by the love of Jesus.

I'm so excited to talk about the Apostle John in this episode. John referred to himself as "the disciple Jesus loved" five times in his gospel writings. What can seem like a boast of arrogance is, I believe, a confidence not in his own identity but in the love of Jesus Christ.

My hope is that, as we talk more about the love of Jesus, you can start to believe that His love is for you and hopefully gain a desire for more of His love.

I’m so excited about this episode. Love love love. That’s what we’re talking about today. Love changes

everything…mostly, it changes us. In today’s episode we’re talking about HOW it changes us. I tackle this

subject from two perspectives. Both psychologically and spiritually. I just love the fact that we can use

the sciences to prove the things of God and in this episode I get the opportunity to do just that.

Let’s take Attachment Theory (sited from an article in Psychology Today) and apply it to our love

relationship with Jesus.

The idea that God is love is hard to fully comprehend because we have a distorted view of what love is. We naturally form our views and interpretations based on our life experiences. But love is an attribute of God. An attribute means that love is a part of who God is. It is not an action or something that He gives. It is a part of His very being.

Why should gaining a better understanding of God's love be important to us? Because God's love transforms us. It has the power to actually change us. God's love brings a better hope in a better tomorrow.

It's totally ok to admit that we struggle with believing that God cares for us. But let's figure out why. After all, belief is the first step to a being in a relationship with God. In today's episode we'll talk about what some of the hindrances might be and how we can overcome them. Then, hopefully, we can get to a confident place to be able to admit "God, I believe. Help my unbelief."

Over the next couple of episodes I want to help answer the question "what makes you think God cares". The first step of answering this question is talking about who God is. In this episode we are talking about the character of God. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines character as the group of qualities that make a person, group or thing different from others. How is God different from others? How is He different from what we think or from what we've been taught? Hopefully, when we can answer these questions, we can start to actually believe that God cares.

In this episode, I explain what Putting Words To It means to me. As the title of the podcast and the blog, it has significant meaning to me so I thought I'd pull back the curtain and explain. 

Revelation 12:11 tells us that we overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. I have been on a journey of learning how to overcome through the power of words for a few years now. Putting Words To It has been an exercise of overcoming. As I have found words to express my thoughts, feelings, and emotions, I have found freedom. First, being able to articulate what's going on in my head and heart, and then getting it out into the light. This has been the most freeing experience of my life. It's been difficult. It's been a process. But it is worth it. Join me as I walk through my process to freedom of learning how to put words to it.

On this very first episode of the Putting Words To It podcast, I felt that it was important to introduce myself, share some of my story and the overall purpose of the podcast. With the great big world of social media, there are more voices out there than ever before. So why add another one?

Well, because so many of us have such a deep feeling of hopelessness in today's world. I don't care where you live or what your life looks like, we are all searching for hope, love, joy, peace....anything good in this world. What I've come to learn is that Jesus is the only true hope that can dispel all darkness and confusion. With him, we can be at peace and we can actually experience a love that builds us up instead of tearing us down. Then, with the security of a love that is for us, our confidence can grow to new levels enabling us to face and even overcome any challenge that may come. I'm purposed to shout it from the mountain tops. Jesus is the only source of real, life changing hope and love. He is our hope! He is good!
