This morning we look to what the New Testament says about what Christ's death on the cross means for those who follow him. Galatians 5:1 says, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." What exactly does that mean? Doesn't the bible also tell us that we are servants of God and slaves of righteousness? How can we be servants or slaves and be called free?

What would you do if you knew that you only had one day left on this earth? This is the predicament that Jesus is in and we're told in John 13 what he does with the time that he has left.

In our passage this week, Peter expands on what it means to be a sojourner and exile on this earth. What does it look like practically? One of the things he highlights is that believers submit to human authority. Is that an absolute submission or is there some leeway? Peter doesn't say, but we look at what the rest of scripture tells us about this and about human authority in general.

In our passage today, Peter explains that believers are being built up as a spiritual house, a new temple! He calls believers living stones that are a part of this spiritual house that God is putting together. Why does he call us living stones and what exactly does it mean to be living stones that are being built into a spiritual house?

In our passage today Peter discusses a number of things. What he's done so far in this letter is try to explain to the churches that he's writing to, who they are as believers. And he's connected who they are with what they do now as followers of Jesus. What followers of Jesus do has a lot to do with getting rid of former ways of living, with how we treat others, with what we're setting our hope on, and with what we're feeding ourselves with.
