It’s always a joy to speak with an artist. They think so deeply. Sometimes, though, that can be a problem for the person with the deep thoughts.

Our guest today is John DeFoore, a musician in Mineola, Texas, who shared with us last time that his thoughts used to get him in trouble.

Coming of age in the 1960s in London, John DeFoore had to make sense of a crazy world.

He did that through music.

Terri Hoover, ladies and gentlemen. She’s been through hell and back. In fact, the road is pretty familiar to her by now. She’s lost a dad and a husband. She’s been hurt by people who said they would help. She’s been in and out of rehab for every drug you can name.

We all experience pain in our lives, and we all deal with it in different ways. It can feel lonely at times, because it’s hard to find someone who will be honest about what they’ve been through. Sometimes, though, a rare soul will come along and share their experience - and how they dealt with it, whether good or bad.

On the last episode of Qavah, we visited with Lydia Nimbeshaho, who survived the horrific Rwandan genocide in 1994. After her parents were killed, she and her siblings went to live in an orphanage with other survivors. 

Lydia had no idea how much she would later miss this community of people who shared her trauma.

After living at the orphanage, she and her two siblings were moved from place to place until they one day found themselves on their own.

Trauma changes the brain and can cause one difficulty in remembering, even the good stuff. Once there was a little girl named Lydia. She was adorable and everyone mentioned how cute she was when they saw her. She had a happy family with a mom, dad and 5 Siblings. Those memories are hard to retrieve for Lydia now.
