Terri Hoover, ladies and gentlemen. She’s been through hell and back. In fact, the road is pretty familiar to her by now. She’s lost a dad and a husband. She’s been hurt by people who said they would help. She’s been in and out of rehab for every drug you can name.

We all experience pain in our lives, and we all deal with it in different ways. It can feel lonely at times, because it’s hard to find someone who will be honest about what they’ve been through. Sometimes, though, a rare soul will come along and share their experience - and how they dealt with it, whether good or bad.

On the last episode of Qavah, we visited with Lydia Nimbeshaho, who survived the horrific Rwandan genocide in 1994. After her parents were killed, she and her siblings went to live in an orphanage with other survivors. 

Lydia had no idea how much she would later miss this community of people who shared her trauma.

After living at the orphanage, she and her two siblings were moved from place to place until they one day found themselves on their own.

Trauma changes the brain and can cause one difficulty in remembering, even the good stuff. Once there was a little girl named Lydia. She was adorable and everyone mentioned how cute she was when they saw her. She had a happy family with a mom, dad and 5 Siblings. Those memories are hard to retrieve for Lydia now.

We spoke with Deborah on our last episode of Qavah, when we learned about how she rebuilt her life after that diagnosis. Simple tasks, like going to the grocery store, were things she had to completely relearn.

Deborah McAlexander’s life radically changed at the age of 24, when she lost something that most of us take for granted. The faith that she was raised with suddenly became real in a whole new way.

Gary has been a part of the stunt industry since before there were stunt schools. In the 40 years he has worked in film, Gary has worked with Jack Nicholson, Penny Marshall, Alan Arkin, James Caan, Bruce Willis and Garry Marshall…those are just a few.
