For decades, two rival river towns have hosted the country's only Tug Of War across the Mississippi River. Port Byron, Illinois and LeClaire, Iowa set up teams to fight for victory, battling each other AND the heavy currents of the longest river in the country. 
Barry Long has served on the Tugfest Iowa Committee for 13 years. He's the event's Communications Director. 
Brandon Smith is heading into his first year of service on Tugfest, acting as the event emcee. 
As Tugfest turns 35 in 2022 these two share the perspective of the hard work, dedication and grit of the "Tuggers," talk about the charitable side of Tugfest and discuss the Iowa side's strategy to take back the win. 
The rope used in the event is 2,700 feet long and weighs 680 pounds.

Tina Anderson and Mandy Griesenbeck are bicyclists who lead the Quad Cities community in the sport. 
Tina is with the Quad Cities Bike Club and Mandy is with QC Friends of Off-Road Cycling.  Both women have made bicycling a part of their lifestyle, owning a bike for every condition.  As Mandy and Tina can confirm, passionate cyclists have more than one bike, sometimes taking up all the garage space! 
The Quad Cities has over time become more cyclist friendly, with cities painting bike lanes along the roadways and the new I-74 Bridge presenting its pedestrian pathway.  These actions and more have created more awareness of sharing the road with cyclists and work to encourage others to get into the sport. 
These two clubs do maintenance work on area trails and are always looking for volunteers.

Freddy Allen is a talented musician who got his start in the business as a teenager playing music at restaurants in Missouri.
Growing up in the music scene, Freddy decided to advance his education at Central Methodist University in Missouri, before embarking on big city gigs in New York and Chicago. 
Freddy has toured internationally, worked with entertainers like Phyllis Diller and Bea Arthur, and plays regularly in Chicago.  Ultimately he has decided to settle down in the Quad Cities with his husband, near family.  His decision to plant his roots in the QC allows our residents and visitors to enjoy his professional musical stylings, at places like The Grape Life in Davenport and The Crane and Pelican in LeClaire. 
With nearly 40 years in the industry, you'd expect he's found his one true love. But au contraire! Freddy's next chapter is unfolding among the flowers.  Floral arranging is something he's certified in and has worked in professionally. This musician has big plans to combine music and flowers, and is already working as a florist in his off time, dubbing himself "Freddy the Flower Guy."

The Quad Cities community has become a rich destination for runners and continues to foster a running community within, given its growing access points to cross Iowa/Illinois state lines across the Mississippi River!
There are endless opportunities to run with peers or compete against worldwide elites. The Quad Cities has numerous running groups, clubs, and road races every week. 
Some of the most well known are the Bix 7 in Davenport, Iowa and the TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon, which travels from Illinois into Iowa and back, touching four cities along the way. 
Guests Joe Moreno and Phil Young are influential names in the Quad Cities running community. Phil is the owner of Fleet Feet Davenport. Joe is the former Mayor of East Moline and race director for multiple area events including the TBK Bank QC Marathon, Firecracker Run, and Freedom Run.  From directing their own events to becoming known as the mayor who will high five you as you cross the finish line, hear their perspectives from participating, to volunteering to being race leads and all the ups and downs in between.

Chad Pregracke, founder of Living Lands & Waters, and more recently, the Bison Bridge Foundation explains the idea to repurpose the I-80 Bridge over the Mississippi River and to bring a herd of bison on isn't an idea that came overnight. 
It's a concept that's earned the support of about 38,000 people as of spring 2022 and will keep forging ahead to the Iowa and Illinois DOTs as well as lawmakers both locally and in D.C. 
Chad says he'd like to see this piece of infrastructure repurposed, as a way to conserve, save money, host wildlife, bring in tourists, and improve the quality of life and place for the population already living and investing in the Quad Cities area.

Dr. Kit Ford, the founder and director of Argrow's House of Healing and Hope talks about her journey to developing a place where survivors of violence and domestic abuse can start anew. 
Argrow's House was named after Dr. Ford's grandmother, who taught her love and kindness even in the midst of pain. 
As the house of healing expands its services of housing and employment to survivors, Dr. Ford says, "it takes a village," describing the Quad Cities' willingness and acceptance to helping make this mission thrive. 
Dr. Ford shares memories of her grandmother, who she describes as "sweet as pie" and discusses the battle she herself faced with an attack; all now working as her northern star on a mission to help serve others.

Donna discusses her and Isabel's similar beginnings in the art world, both having a charming, yet arguably unsuccessful brush with their first projects, Donna with a bar of soap and Isabel with firing clay in the family furnace.
With more than 40 years in the company, Donna knows the story of Isabel Bloom like the back of her hand and talks about the joys and challenges of sculpting with cement.
