Founded in 1926, the Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University is distinctive and strong in subject areas such as the safety and durability of civil engineering projects, civil engineering disaster prevention and mitigation, urbanization and infrastructure construction, the theories and practices of transportation engineering, and the use of information technology in construction projects. The department has made important contributions to the building of the country as well as its economic and social development, enjoying a great international reputation for its academic accomplishments.
