Before Jesus ascended to Heaven, He told His disciples to wait for something He promised earlier: the coming of the Holy Spirit. Today we discover the amazing reality that Jesus' presence within us through the Holy Spirit is actually better than Jesus' physical presence beside us.

John closes his story of Jesus with the same call he started with: "Follow Me." Wherever you are on your journey with Jesus in YOUR life, whether you're thinking about taking the very first steps, or whether you've been on this journey for a long time, the words "Follow Me" will still guide you through each step of your journey with Jesus.

What happens when our confidence in following Jesus gets shattered by our own failures? Jesus uses the scenes from two campfires to help Peter (and us) see how Jesus meets us in our weakness and calls us to serve: not from self-confidence, but from love.

When the disciples returned to fishing after Jesus's resurrection, they discovered the futility of working in their own strength. Our passage shows us how Jesus uses their empty nets to teach them (and us) about dependence on Him for both guidance and provision in our daily lives.

In our passage, Thomas is transformed from demanding proof of Jesus' resurrection, to boldly declaring that Jesus is God. What led to Thomas' change? It was through Jesus meeting him in his doubt, and bringing him to where his faith needed to be. Just like He often does with us!
