Relations between China and the European Union are sure to be more complicated after Beijing blacklisted several key European lawmakers, academics and think-tanks in retaliation for an earlier EU decision to impose sanctions on a few Chinese officials. However, what are the root causes of the sanctions on each other and which implications do they have for the EU-China relations in economic, political and strategic terms?
